Windows 8 Hard to Change Tablet Pattern

Microsoft released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Unlike traditional PC operating systems, Windows 8 includes a dedicated mobile version (ARM version) and a new mobile interface Metro that focuses on mobile devices such as tablets. This is seen as a challenge for Apple and Google in the tablet space, and a major move by the Microsoft operating system to try to recover from the mobile Internet era.

Microsoft has performed poorly in the mobile Internet space relative to its position in the PC space. Microsoft has not been able to predict the arrival of the mobile Internet era in a timely manner. When Apple swept the global market with mobile smart terminals such as iPhone and iPad, Microsoft is still waiting to see. In the end, I saw Apple's general trend, but hurriedly responded, until October 2010, only released a mobile operating system WindowsPhone7. In the tablet market, Microsoft has only launched a dedicated operating system until now. This kind of action is not only surprising that Microsoft's decision-making layer is slow to respond to the market.

In the tablet market, according to the latest report released by market research company IHSiSuppli, Apple is the world's largest tablet manufacturer in 2011, with a market share of 62%, Samsung (microblogging), Amazon (microblogging) ) ranked second and third with a market share of 9% and 6% respectively. Google Android basically occupies all markets except iOS tablets. And now Microsoft's entry can trigger Apple's and Google's status is not known.

Internet expert Liu Xingliang (microblogging) believes that Microsoft's Windows8 operating system has two major advantages. First, the operating system can unify multi-type terminals such as PCs, tablets, and smart phones, and realize it through cloud computing. Data sharing and application synchronization between different terminals; another big advantage is Microsoft's strong influence in traditional PC vendors. Most PC vendors are now entering the tablet market, and Microsoft can take advantage of its traditional advantages to the tablet. The computer market is infiltrated.

Windows 8 can take advantage of these two advantages to enter the tablet market, but if Microsoft relies on these two hands to pull down Apple and Google, it is obviously not enough. At present, there are many enterprises that provide cloud services for smart terminals, including not only terminal manufacturers, but also Internet companies and telecom operators. The collaboration between different terminals is not the exclusive advantage of Microsoft.

As for whether traditional PC vendors will support Microsoft, it depends on consumer feedback after Windows 8 is put on the market. It is not yet possible to judge that Microsoft will get support. However, in the tablet market, due to the high maturity of Android, most PC manufacturers will not abandon Android, and these traditional PC manufacturers supporting Microsoft have a limited share in the tablet market.

Microsoft Windows Director Steven · Steven Sinofsky has repeatedly emphasized Windows 8's good user experience at the press conference, and will use no-compromise as the principle of consumer operating experience. . According to a survey conducted by PCWorld, 34.5% of respondents said they were very dissatisfied with the Windows 8 consumer preview version, and only 24.2% were very satisfied with Windows 8. Insiders pointed out that Microsoft is striving for change on Windows 8, which is significantly different from the previous version of the operating system, which is likely to cause users' habits to be challenged.

Due to the influence of hardware configuration, the main value of tablet PCs is reflected in entertainment functions such as games, mainly through third-party application software such as APP. Windows 8 also launches WindowsStore, where users can purchase or download Metro style apps. However, Microsoft did not disclose the number of applications in the WindowsStore. Obviously, Microsoft is still far behind the number of Apple's nearly 600,000 applications.

Apple's biggest advantage lies in its ecological chain, which not only firmly grasps the telecom operators, but also gathers a large number of third-party application developers. Microsoft is still incomplete in the ecosystem, and there is a clear lack of support from third-party application developers. If this gap cannot be bridged, Microsoft lacks a foundation in the mobile Internet space.

If Microsoft continues to maintain a slow pace in the future, the mobile Internet will not be slow, users will eventually vote with their feet
