The taskbar reminds you that Win8 update patch knows

to maintain stable operation of the system, good use habits are essential, and keeping the system accepting automatic update is one of the simplest and most effective measures. Usually, you only need to use the system default "automatic installation update", but in some cases, we need to manually control the update download and installation. For example, when you are playing a presentation, or just when you are using a metering network, you obviously don't want to automatically update it. In this case, the most appropriate option is to change the update method to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install updates" so that important security updates are not missed and automatic updates are maximized.

This option can maximize the automatic update

In the Windows 7 era, when we make the changes in the above picture, whenever a new update patch is released, A bubble notification will pop up in the taskbar. Xiaobian I have been using this method to update the patch. However, after entering Windows 8, when I set the same prompt mode, I never saw any desktop prompts.

There are bubble tips under Win7, Win8 is no longer

Has there been no update release? Obviously not, by manually checking the update or getting the latest update patch, what is the reason for the desktop notification disappeared? After some searching, I realized that the original Windows 8 settings are like this: Windows 8 update notifications will only appear on the screen every time I log in.

This is a very strange change from the user's point of view, because the login screen only appears when you boot or reboot. If your computer is set to log in automatically or never shut down (sleep only), you won't see it even if you have an available update... In other words, this notification completely loses its effect.

What should I do? Going back to the default settings for automatic updates? This obviously does not meet the original intention, then find a solution. Finally, Xiaobian found a way to solve the problem: with a third-party tool, Windows (8) Update NotifIEr, to check for updates and notify you when updates are available.

After downloading and unpacking, double-click to run, WUN will reside in the taskbar, first check if there is any current update, and if there is an available update, it will pop up a bubble notification. After clicking the middle text to open the update panel, you can proceed to the next step, whether you want to download the update immediately.

Bubble notifications like Win7

Clicking on the WUN icon expands some command menus, where "settings" can be easily set. Others include Search for updates, turn off monitoring, open the update panel, and more.

WUN Option Settings

Since WUN is a green tool, you need to re-run it after each reboot. Check the first option to set it to start with the system. The second option is to let WUN hide the taskbar icon when no updates are found. The third option is whether to use Windows8-style bubble notifications. The last value box is the interval between each search update, in minutes, and the default is to search every hour. Xiao Bian feels that this frequency can be reduced. Everyone decides according to the time they use the computer every day. It is enough to check once every day after booting.
