Open Win 8 with Hyper-V to create virtual machine

Hyper-V component was originally equipped in Microsoft Windows server to facilitate the creation and management of virtualized server computing environment. For the first time, the Windows 8 system integrates the Hyper-V functionality of the enterprise into a personal system, and its functions are similar to virtual machine software such as VMware and VirtualBox. With the Hyper-V feature, Windows 8 systems can easily create virtual machines directly. The Hyper-V function requirements in Win8 are as follows.

System Requirements: 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 8 can be enabled for Hyper-V, but only 64-bit Windows 8 can create virtual machines, but 32-bit systems can't. Make a link to the virtual machine. Since the maximum memory supported by the 32-bit system is only 4G, even if the virtual machine function is turned on, the user experience will not be obtained, so the function of the virtual machine is cancelled in the 32-bit system.

Device Requirements: Hyper-V requires secondary address translation (SLAT) and supports virtualized CPU (AMD-V or Intel-VT).

Enable Win-V function of Win8

In the Win8 system, the Hyper-V function is set to off by default. We need to enable this function first. First enter the control panel of the Win8 system and select "Programs". Select "Enable or disable Windows features" in the Programs panel.

Select the "Hyper-V" option in the "Windows Features" dialog box and click "OK".

Note: If the system and hardware conditions are not met, the “Hyper-V” function option will be grayed out and not selectable.

After starting the Hyper-V function of the Win8 system, you need to restart the system to complete the startup of the Windows hypervisor and virtual machine management services.

After restarting the Win8 system, you can see the Hyper-V related application tile in the start screen.

Select the "Hyper-V Manager" tile and the system will automatically enter the traditional Windows desktop and open the Hyper-V Manager. We can see the introduction of Hyper-V in the Hyper-V Manager. The Hyper-V server named after the current computer name in the left column is the local server. You can connect to the remote by clicking the "Connect to Server" option in the right column. Hyper-V server. If the local server is not displayed, it means that Hyper-V has not been successfully installed or the related service is not enabled, or the CPU does not support it.

Please click on "Next Page" to see how to create a virtual machine in the Win-V Manager of Win8 system.

Creating a local virtual machine in Win8's "Hyper-V Manager"

Selecting the local server in the "Hyper-V Manager" interface (here named "Win8"), then select "New - Virtual Machine" in the right column.

The Win8 system enters the New Virtual Machine wizard to guide users to easily create a local virtual machine. Here, you can set the virtual machine name and storage location (including virtual machine information and snapshot storage location. It is recommended to select partitions with more free space), allocate memory size, network configuration (virtual network card), virtual hard disk, and installation options. Perform an operating system installation) and so on. Finally, we can see the current configuration information in the summary, and click "Finish" after confirming it.

Wait a moment, after the virtual machine creation process is over, we can see our new virtual machine in the “Hyper-V Manager”.

Double-click the virtual machine we just created to enter the virtual machine operation interface.

A virtual machine without a system installed cannot be used. If you need to install an operating system in this virtual machine, you can load the system installation disk image through the virtual optical drive in the virtual machine (such as WinXP or Win8 or even Mac OS and Linux operating system installation CD image), or directly into the CD-ROM drive system installation CD, this virtual drive can boot virtual machine boot, and then install the operating system to the virtual machine.

Hyper-V supports operating systems: Windows Server 2008 32 & 64 bit, Windows Server 2003 SP2 or higher 32 & 64 bit, Windows 2000, Windows 7 32 & 64 Bit, Windows Vista 32 & 64 bit, Windows XP 32 & 64 bit. After the system is installed, click the power button in the upper left corner to start the operating system in the virtual machine.

Since Hyper-V supports the virtual switch function, the NIC in the virtual system must be connected to the virtual switch before it can connect to the network. To set up a virtual switch in Hyper-V, select "Virtual Switch Manager" in the operation bar on the right side of the manager, and then select "New Virtual Network Switch". After the virtual switch is successfully established, the virtual network card in the virtual system can be connected to the virtual switch, and the virtual system can connect to the network through the virtual network card.

We have briefly introduced the Hyper-V function that comes with the Win8 system, as well as the opening of the function and the creation of the virtual machine. This function of Win8 is provided for some friends who need to use the virtual machine. A lot of convenience.
