Win8.1 installation KB2942844 patch failed solution

Recently, Windows Update on 64-bit Windows 8.1 system received several update pushes, and others can be installed. Only KB2942844, which is the update installation of Flash Player, failed. The error code given by Windows Update is 80073712, and the attempt to give a solution to this error has not been resolved.

First of all, I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter provided by the help page. There is an error message and a warning prompt. The problem is not solved. The 2942844 still cannot be updated normally. Then tried the DISM tool. The Scanhealth step is completed normally, the RestoreHealth step cannot be completed, prompting that the source needs to be specified, and the problem is not resolved.

Solution

Follow the steps below and try to update each time you complete

Step 1: Confirm that the update service is working.

1. Press “Windows+R”Enter“services.msc” to open the service.

2. Find Windows Update, Background intelligent Transfer Service, Cryptographic

Services, Windows Installer, Software Protection, software licensing service, check if they are enabled, double click, click start, and start type Change to “Auto”.

Step 2: Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder

1. After disabling the Windows Update service in the service, open C:\\Windows and right click on SoftwareDistribution and select Rename SoftwareDistribution_Old.

2. Re-enable the Windows Update service after the rename is complete.

Step 3: Repair the component

In the case of networking, press the Win key +X at the same time, select the command prompt (administrator), and then enter the following command (you can also right-click copy and paste):

dism/Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

dism/Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

The above is a solution for the Windows 8.1 x64 system unable to install the KB2942844 update patch. . Compared to other non-system software patches, Flash Player update patches are of high importance. After all, browsing most websites now requires Flash Player.
