Detailed introduction of the new version of Credential Manager

introduced by Win8

Windows8 introduced the account synchronization function, by default the system settings, IE browsing records and other information will be bound to the Microsoft account, after logging in with this account will be backstage Automatically sync related content. Related to personal security, the information stored in the browser for website logins is also automatically synchronized. Using Win8's Credential Manager, you can see exactly which security credentials are stored on the computer.

Use the shortcut key Win+X, select the control panel in the pop-up menu, you can see the credential manager (if it is viewed by category, it is under the "User Account and Family Safety" entry ).

After entering, unlike the previous version of Windows, there is not only Windows credentials, but also the addition of Web credentials as part of the management content.

In the web credentials, you can view the stored credentials related to the network login authentication. These credentials can be stored by different applications, including IE, Skype, Windows applications and more. For example, the credentials shown in the image below are stored by the “mail, Hitachi, contacts, and messages” application. The username is the email address, and the portion of the light blue box indicates that it has roaming properties. In other words, if you log in to the same Microsoft account on another Windows 8 computer, it will automatically sync the credentials. Since my account was used from the developer preview of Win8, I stored more credentials. The advantage of synchronization is that I don't have to enter so many usernames and passwords again because I changed the host or operating system. Just create an online account corresponding to the Microsoft account in Windows 8. Here you can also manage the password saved by IE. Compared to the previous user name and password auto-save function of IE9 browser, you can see the complete one-by-one record here, which is convenient for selective cleaning instead of clearing all.

Another piece of the credential manager is the credentials for managing Windows. Here you can view some of the information saved by the machine to log in to the remote computer. Of course, if you also installed Office 2013, you can also see an Office15-related credential in the normal credentials, which allows you to automatically log in and even edit the contents of Skydrive when using the Office series software. Some users may encounter a credential name called virtualapp/didlogical (the last line) here, as shown in the figure below. This is because Windows Live related components have been installed (I have installed both Messenger and Writer components) and do not use these. The components can be deleted.

Because this part is for Windows and related local programs, this part of the content will not be synchronized through the Microsoft account, you need to manually backup and restore. Click the “Backup Credentials' button to make a backup of these credentials. Choose a location, preferably a non-local hard drive, so that the local hard drive crashes without losing files. Click Next to see the prompt: & ldquo; Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to continue backing up on the secure desktop. ” After pressing the three key combinations, you will be prompted to enter the password and confirm the password. This will save the local credentials. Similar to the restore, select the credential file that needs to be restored and press the three key combinations as before, and enter the password to restore.

With the above credential manager, how can the system go wrong, as long as the Microsoft account and credentials file are saved, the stored username and password will be returned immediately. !
