Detailed explanation of three different remote management methods in win2003

Remote control is to remotely control another computer (master host/server) by one computer (master remote/client) on the network. The technology is mainly realized by remote management software. There are three different remote management methods for terminal servers using the Windows Server 2003 operating system. Today, I will explain to you the three major types of Win 2003 remote management:

Terminal + Remote Desktop Connection

<; Terminal + Remote Desktop Connection & rdquo; This is mainly for network administrators A way to manage a server on your own fixed workstation, management is fast and secure, and it's almost indistinguishable from sitting in front of the server. The implementation method is as follows:

1 In Windows Server 2003, enter “Add/Remove Programs from “Control Panel", click “Add/Remove Windows Components" button from Windows Add “Terminal Server" and "Terminal Server Authorization" in the Component Wizard dialog box and install by default. After the installation is complete, restart the server.

2 Run the “Terminal Server Authorization” program from the “Administrative Tools” button, right-click on the computer name, select “Activate Server” from the menu that appears, and follow the steps below. , activate the terminal server.

Tip: If the administrator's operating system is Windows XP Professional, you can proceed to step 5 without having to perform steps 3 and 4 below.

3 Copy the "Remote Desktop Connection" installation program from the %systemroot%\\system32\\clients\\tsclient\\win32 directory of the Windows Server 2003 computer to the network administrator's workstation, or by sharing Run the installer directly. %systemroot% is the system directory where Windows Server 2003 is installed. The default is Windows.

4 If you are installing the "Remote Desktop Connection" program on a Windows 98 computer, you will need to restart it before the official installation. If you are using a Windows XP Professional computer for management, you do not have to install it.

5 After running the installation, "Remote Desktop Connection" program, if you are using windows xp, click “Start →All Programs & Rarr;Accessories & Rarr;Communication> Program.

Click on "Options" to open all options for Remote Desktop Connection to set up.

Enter the IP address of the Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server in the "Computer" field. Enter the administrator account <Administrator" in the "username" column, enter the password for the account in the “password" and check “Save password”. Then, select the “Show” tab, and at the slider below the “Remote Desktop Size”, you can change the managed window size. It is recommended to use “full screen” or “<;800×600” (if current The resolution is 1024× 768). Under "Color", select "Enhanced Color (16 bit)". Then select “ display the connection bar when scrolling in full screen.

After the setup is complete, go to the “General” tab and click the “Save As” button to save the current settings to a configuration file, such as “ldquo;windows2003-1.rdp&rdquo” ; file (in the future we directly double-click this configuration file with the mouse, you can directly call the remote desktop connection program, and log in to the terminal server according to the current configuration).

Now we can click on the "Connection" button in the Remote Desktop Connection program to log in to the server for management.

When using full screen mode for management, sit down There is no difference between using the server's keyboard and mouse for management before the server.

Second, Terminal + Remote Desktop Web

<; Terminal + Remote Desktop Web” Connection, this is mainly a way for network administrators to manage the server occasionally when solving problems in the LAN. .

1. In Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server, click “Add or Remove Programs & Rarr; Add/Remove Windows Components>, from “Application Server & Rarr; Internet Information Services (IIS) & Rar; World Wide Web In the "Services" component window, select "Remote Desktop Web Connection" and install it in the default mode.

2. In the computer with IE 4.0 or above, open IE browser and type “"http://192.168.1.99/tsweb” in the address bar (where 192.168.1.99 is installed) After the Remote Desktop Web Connection & component; the computer will enter the window.

Tip: If you use Remote Desktop Web Connection for the first time, a "Security Settings Warning" window will pop up, prompting you to install "Remote Desktop ActiveX Control" control, please select “ always trust Microsoft Windows Publisher”, then click the “Yes' button to confirm the installation.

In the "Server" column of Figure 4, enter the computer name or TCP/IP address of the remote terminal server, and select the window size after "size", such as select "full screen display". Click the “Connect” button to enter the login window, enter the administrator account and password in the login window, and click the “OK” button to enter the remote management interface. This allows you to remotely manage and use Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server in Internet Explorer.

Third, remote management (HTML)

Remote management (HTML) mode, mainly used to manage the terminal server in the unit through the Internet, it is safe, convenient and so on.

When the network administrator needs to manage the server on a business trip, or when the server needs to be managed at home, use the "Remote Desktop Connection" program management, and sometimes may not find "Remote Desktop Connection" in some cases. ; the program's installer. If using Remote Desktop Web Connection, it is not secure when using IE for management (because HTTP connections are not secure connections). At this time, Windows Server 2003 provides a secure web connection that does not require a terminal server for remote management, that is, remote management (HTML). The implementation method is as follows:

1. Run “Add or Remove Programs> Add/Remove Windows Components”, enter “Application Server & Rarr; Internet Information Service (IIS) & Rar; World Wide Web The Service & rdquo; page, select & ldquo; Remote Management (HTML) & rdquo; then install by default.

2. On the remote computer, open IE and type “<;https://202.206.197.200:8098” in the address bar. (202.206.197.200 is the IP address of the remotely managed computer) After that, a security warning dialog box will pop up. Click the “Yes> button and a login dialog will pop up. After entering the administrator account and password, you can enter the remote management interface.

After completing the management, the network administrator can directly close IE, because we are using a secure web connection. In theory, the use of this connection will not be monitored, and will not be recorded and tracked, even if the network administrator manages in the Internet cafe, do not worry about security issues.

The three remote management methods described above are not limited to three main areas of use. In fact, network administrators can use any one or more of these management methods under various conditions to achieve actual Complementary use in applications.

Supplementary Notes

●The difference between using terminal management and remote management (HTML)

Remote management (HTML) function, can only be used on Windows Server 2003, windows 2000 Server does not have this feature.

Remote Management (HTML) is mainly used for remote management of servers over the Internet, and it is limited management. It is not as full-featured as Terminal Services, but it is sufficient for daily maintenance. And because of the secure connection, network administrators don't have to worry about being eavesdropped during the management process.

Terminal management is a kind of service built in windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003. It is very convenient and fast to use. However, when it is managed through the Internet, it is not very convenient, and it may be eavesdropped.

●Precautions when installing a firewall on a remotely managed server

If the remotely managed server is behind a firewall, in order to use the "Remote Desktop Connection" program for terminal management, network management The member needs to open the TCP 3389 port of the corresponding managed server on the firewall. If you use the "Remote Desktop Web Connection" to manage, you must also open the TCP port 80. To use the "Remote Management (HTML)" function, you need to open the TCP 8098 port.
