I believe many of my friends are used to the original desktop mode when using Windows 8 system. When you open a music, picture or video file under Windows 8, the system automatically opens the Windows 8 new app and switches to full screen mode. Here's how to change the way the default program is opened under Windows 8.

Method 1. Select the default program directly from the file

1. For example, I want to change the opening method of the JPG image file, select the image you want to open and click the right mouse button to select it in the pop-up menu. “Open the way” option, then select “Select Default Program> in the submenu.

2. Take the "Windows Photo Viewer" option as an example. If you want to use other programs, please click the “More” option.

3. Then we open the JPG image file and it will open directly on the desktop mode <;Windows Photo Viewer”.

4. For other music, video or other files, similar operations.

Method 2, set the default program in the control panel

1. In the desktop environment, right click on the screen corner of the screen, and then select the "Control Panel" option.

2. Click the “Programs” option in the Control Panel.

3. Next click on the “default program” option.

4. Select “Set Default Program”.

5. Here, set the "Windows Media Player" video player as an example, set it as the default program. Click on “Windows Media Player” on the left, and then click on the right side of this program to set this program to the default value ” option.

6. Then you can see that Windows Media Player has been set as the default program.

7. Finally we open a video file and the system will automatically play the video using the Windows Media Player program.
