WinXP system is still the mainstream system used by users, but the functions and skills of Windows
XP system may not be fully grasped by users. The following teaches you how to set a static IP address in the WinXP system. Currently, the mainstream computer
generally has a network card installed. By default, the method of automatically obtaining an IP address is adopted. The IP address is automatically requested during system startup, which takes a certain amount of time. If you set a static IP address for the NIC, you will save this time and speed up the startup.

Operation Steps

1. Right-click on the “Network Neighborhood” icon on the desktop and select the “Properties” command.

2, open the "Network Connections" window, right click on the "Local Connections" icon, select the "Properties" command.


3. In the "Local Connection Properties" dialog box that is open, double-click "This connection uses the following items"; "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list" ”Options.


4. Open the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" dialog box and select the "Use the following IP address" radio button. Then enter a set of IP addresses (such as 192.168.0.1) in the “IP Address” edit box, and enter the subnet mask (such as 255.255.255.0) in the “Subnet Mask” edit box. Keep the rest of the options as they are, click the “OK” button. Go back to the “Local Connection Properties” dialog and click the “OK" button and close the "Network Connections" window.


Small Tips

For computer users accessing the Internet through ADSL virtual dialing, setting a static IP address for the network card will not affect the use. However, if you use a broadband router to access the Internet, you must set the IP address acquisition method according to the actual situation.
