If there is no automatic activation after the upgrade, please go to the “Update and Security” window of the system settings and click “Activate” to activate manually (Figure 1). If you have upgraded to Windows 10 but failed to activate, it may also be because the upgrade server is busy, wait a while and then go to the control panel to try to activate.

Other users run the Windows 10 installation package on the lower version of the system. When the installation is not performed, the installation is not selected. Instead, the installation is selected. The installation program does not determine the activation status of the original version. Therefore, Windows 10 after installation cannot be activated automatically. At this time, if you enter the original Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 product key, you will be prompted "This product key is not available" and generate an error code (error code 0xC004C003, 0xC004F034 or 0xC004F050). In this case, you need to uninstall Windows 10, fix the low version system, and then perform the upgrade installation and activation.

Tip:

To ensure successful activation, you can perform a factory reset and then upgrade to install Windows 10. To upgrade from ISO or installation media, select “Upgrade this PC” instead of "Install now", this will ensure that the Windows 10 version matches the currently running system version.

Small tips:

Be prepared, just in case. Please create a recovery partition and restore the boot disk before the upgrade, and copy the system backup of the recovery partition to the recovery boot disk, so that the upgrade is not successful, and the system is restored when the rollback encounters an accident (Figure 2).

If you are unable to enter the product key, you can use the “SLMGR.VBS -IPK XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX” command (replace X with the product key) and restart.

3. New device new installation activation

Install Windows 10 on a brand new device, or install a high version on a Windows 10 device that already has a lower version (such as Home version) installed Windows 10 (like the Pro version) requires product key activation (Figure 3).
