Windows 10 also has this feature? Automatically share WiFi passwords with friends

Beijing time on the morning of July 1st, Windows 10's Wi-Fi Sense function may pose a major security risk: this function will share the Wi-Fi network password with the user's contacts, so after granting a password to a person, Everyone with whom you know will gain access. These contacts contain the user's Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) contacts, Skype contacts, and Facebook contacts (requires the user to actively open).

This feature makes it easy for users to use Wi-Fi networks: if you walk into the coverage of a Wi-Fi network, your friends know exactly the password for the network, and you have all installed Wi-Fi Sense, you can also log in directly to the network. However, this model may bring security risks.

Wi-Fi Sense does not display passwords to family, friends, or acquaintances, but allows them to use the relevant Wi-Fi network if they meet the conditions. These passwords are stored on Microsoft's servers and are sent to the appropriate device when the conditions are met. However, Microsoft did not show you these passwords.

Microsoft wrote in the FAQ section of Wi-Fi Sense: "When you want to share access to a network, the password will be sent to Microsoft via an encrypted connection and stored as an encrypted file." In the Microsoft server. Later, when your friend uses Wi-Fi Sense and is within the coverage of the Wi-Fi network, the system sends it to your contact's phone via an encrypted connection. "

In theory, if an outsider wants to use your company's Wi-Fi network, it is a friend relationship with at least one employee and must be within the network coverage.

This feature has been introduced in Windows 8.1, meaning that after you enter your password on Lumia, you don't have to re-enter your password on your laptop, because you must be your own "friend". However, because the coverage of Windows Phone is not large, the resulting threat does not seem to attract people's attention.

However, if Windows 10 is installed on all laptops covered by corporate Wi-Fi networks, the security risk will increase dramatically.

In addition, if you allow Wi-Fi Sense to get your Facebook contacts, you will also give your friends list to Microsoft and provide your own wireless network password. To address the resulting security risks, Microsoft has provided a temporary solution to add its Wi-Fi network name to a blocked list to prevent Wi-Fi Sense from obtaining relevant information.

Microsoft will turn on Wi-Fi Sense by default in Windows 10, and access information will be shared by default to contacts —— unless the user actively sets the first connection. Although turning this feature off will reduce convenience, it will help improve the security of your IT environment.
