What is Windows as a service? What impact will it give us to upgrade Win10?

In the upcoming release of Windows 10, Microsoft will change the way the system was upgraded. In the future, Windows will not have major version upgrades, but will get feature additions and bug fixes through regular upgrades —— this is Microsoft's "Windows as a Service" development strategy.

What is Windows as a Service? What impact does it have on our use? The following five points should give you a general understanding.

1. Not a strict service

The so-called "XX as a service" is also referring to software as a cloud service, not The computer is running locally. And Windows 10 will still run completely on your computer, no matter which version you use.

The "service" in Microsoft's mouth is actually referring to updates and patches, that is, "Windows as a Service" will keep your Windows system up-to-date and get all that Microsoft has released. Functional and security upgrades.

2. Will not be called Windows 365

Although Microsoft has registered the domain name of Windows365, this does not mean that Windows will use this name in the future. Because unlike Office 365, Windows does not take a subscription payment method. If you are a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 user, you can upgrade for free within 1 year of Windows 10 release. After the upgrade, you will get the "Lifetime Support" provided by Microsoft.

3. Windows 10 only

Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 will continue to receive system upgrades from Microsoft until the end of their respective life cycles. And "Windows as a Service" provides "Lifetime Support" for Windows 10.

4. The normal and enterprise versions are upgraded differently

Windows 10 Home Edition will automatically upgrade the system, users will not be able to close the upgrade function as before using the previous version. In Windows 10 Premium and Enterprise, users can postpone or disable feature upgrades.

5. Some features are not available

Some features in Windows 10 will not be released until the system is officially released, such as Edge browser extension support, and OneDrive<quo; The alternative to —— Windows 8.1 allows users to save files in a folder that OneDrive does not automatically sync, but this feature does not appear in Windows 10. And if you turn off the system upgrade feature before then, you will naturally not be able to get these features.
