Good dual Windows operating system

Windows 98 is a family-oriented operating system, it is easy to use, and multimedia is powerful, but the stability is not good, from time to time will be a little temper. Windows 2000 is mainly for commercial office platforms, with powerful functions, especially network functions. However, multimedia, software and hardware compatibility is not ideal. To get the best of both worlds, or to install dual systems, there are many articles on how to install dual systems, and many friends have already installed dual systems. According to my experience, I will introduce the use skills after the dual system installation.
User Management Strategy under Windows 2000
Windows 2000 can be used by many users. If your computer is often used by others, it is very convenient to use Windows 2000 to manage users. In Windows 2000, it is divided into six groups according to the nature and permissions of users. You can log in with the Administrator user to manage all users.

Figure 1
For more advanced management, you can select the "Advanced" tab, click the [Advanced] button, you will see "Local Users and Group" window. For example, if you want to prohibit a user from logging in, you do not want to delete the user. You can right-click the user and select "Properties" from the shortcut menu that pops up (Figure 1). Select "Account is disabled".
About the installation of software
We can install the application software according to the characteristics of Windows 98 and Windows 2000. For example, software such as games and media players should be installed under Windows 98 as much as possible, and software required for working such as network software under Windows 2000. For those commonly used software, you can install them under Windows 98 and Windows 2000.
Because it is two independent systems, for the driver and most of the application software, it must be installed under Windows 98 and Windows 2000 to be able to use normally. Such as Office series, DirectX and so on. However, some software such as WPS 2000, EditPlus, UltraEdit and other software, only installed under one system, and then go to another system to execute their executable files.
Take WPS 2000 as an example. If you want all users in Windows 2000 to use it, you can drag the shortcut of WINWPS32.exe file (the executable file corresponding to WPS2000) to D:Documents and in Explorer. SettingsAll Users in the Start menu, so that all users who log in can see WPS 2000 in the Start menu. If you only want to make it available to specific users, the destination path for the shortcut should be changed to the D:Documents and Settings user name Start menu.
About some software resource sharing
Mainly for IE, OE. You may want the favorites under Windows 98 to continue to be used in Windows 2000. The implementation of this purpose is very simple. IE's favorites under Windows 98 are generally stored in C:WindowsFavorites. If you want to use it under Windows 2000, just drag the files in this folder to the D:Documents and Settings user name Favorites. Another method can use the import and export function of IE.
Outlook Express is an email client tool that you often use. It took a long time, and the address book, account number, and E-mail sent and received have a lot. To use it under Windows 98 and Windows 2000 at the same time, for the address book and E-mail account, you can directly use the import and export function. For the E-mail in the OE inbox, using the import and export function is very cumbersome. We can do it in another way.
1, build a folder in the partition of the less reinstalled system, such as Mail.
Tip: Because Windows 2000 is relatively stable, it is recommended that this folder be built in the partition where Windows 2000 is located. If your hard drive has more than two partitions, it is built in a non-system partition.
2, start Outlook Express, select [Tools] → [Options] → [Maintenance] → [Storage Folder]. The "Storage Location" window shown in Figure 2;
2 appears. Click the [Change] button and select the Mail folder you just created in the "Browse for Folder" window. Close all windows and restart OE.
3, to another system, follow the steps above to complete the change.
In this way, the resources of IE and OE can be shared under two systems.
System Maintenance
Dual system maintenance, the most important is the maintenance of the boot menu, there are many introductions to this problem, and will not be described here. Mainly talk about defragmentation and disk check.
When the hard disk is used for a long time, it will generate debris. In order to optimize the system, the debris should be regularly cleaned up. Because the system files of Windows 98 and Windows 2000 are not the same. Therefore, when defragmenting, you should use the respective finishing program separately, otherwise the system file may be wrong.
When checking the disk under Windows 2000, if you select "Automatically fix file system error" and "Scan and try to recover bad sectors", the system will prompt "Cannot perform disk detection". To fully detect the disk, click the [Yes] button in the dialog that just appeared, and the next time the system starts, it will be automatically sorted. This is different from scanning a disk under Windows 98.
Emergency Boot Disk and System Boot Disk
When Windows 98 was used before, the system boot disk can be created in the “Add and Remove Programs” in the Control Panel. To create an emergency repair disk for Windows 2000, you can start the backup program in System Tools and click Create Emergency Boot Disk.
Windows 2000 system boot disk, you can use the bootdiskmakeboot a: on the Windows 2000 CD to make, it should be noted that the production of Windows 2000 boot disk requires 4 disks.
Well, the use of the dual system is introduced here, I hope to help everyone. ;
