Want to install Linux, first disable Win8/Win8.1 UEFI Secure Boot

  

Computer Shop News: Unconsciously, most new PCs pre-installed with Win8/Win8.1 on the market have eliminated the traditional BIOS and adopted the new UEFI. Start the boot mechanism. In order to ensure the security of the Win8/Win8.1 system, Microsoft introduced the UEFI secure boot mechanism. By default, only the system that starts the UEFI firmware signature is allowed.

While this security mechanism protects against rootkit malware, it provides an additional layer of security. However, this feature also has a drawback that may prevent you from booting Linux on a new Win8 machine. This time, IT House also organized the corresponding operational procedures to help system enthusiasts disable Win8/Win8.1 UEFI secure boot.


Note: This article is limited to Intel, AMDx86 architecture platform, not ARM platform.

The specific operation process is as follows:

1. Log in to the current Win8/Win8.1 platform. Tablet users simply swipe the top right side of the screen to call up the Charm Super Menu; mouse and keyboard users simply use the mouse to move to the top right side of the desktop, or use the “Win+C” key combination to call out the Charm Super Menu, as shown below


2, select settings, open “ change computer equipment & rdquo;;


3, Win8 users: just enter the computer settings , open the regular, select the advanced start on the right, click to restart now:


Win8.1 users: enter the computer settings, select update and recovery;


4, open the recovery, select the advanced start on the right, click to restart now;


5, then the Win8 computer will restart, enter the following interface, select the troubleshooting ;


6. Continue to select advanced options;


7. At this point we will see the UEFI firmware settings, decisive click;


8. Continue to restart;


9. For example, under the Surface UEFI firmware page, we only need to change the Secure Boot Control Enable to Disable, as follows The figure shows.


10. If it is a desktop computer, we need to switch to the Boot section and disable the Secure Boot function, as shown in the figure below, and finally save it to take effect.


Now, we have successfully disabled Win8/Win8.1 UEFI Secure Boot, and then we can directly install and boot Ubuntu and other Linux systems.
