Beware of Win7/Win8.1: Microsoft Free Antivirus Exposure Vulnerability

  

Computer Store News: Today, the Microsoft TechNet Security Center community has issued an emergency security bulletin (click-to-access) to confirm that there is a “serious” security vulnerability in many of its security products that could allow an attacker to directly shut down anti-virus software. The real-time protection service eventually caused the Win7 and Win8.1 systems to be infected by malicious websites.

This security vulnerability was first discovered and fed back by Google security engineer Tavis Ormandy, but fortunately, no third party has begun to exploit the Microsoft vulnerability.

According to the Microsoft Security Bulletin, this security vulnerability affects most of Microsoft's security products, including the enterprise version of Forefront Client Security, the consumer version of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), and the full-platform Windows Defender.


Currently, Windows Defender covers most Windows desktop platforms, covering Windows XP, Vista, Win7, Win8, Win8.1, and defaults to Win8, Win8.1 anti-virus security products. .

However, Microsoft also responded in a timely manner, promising to push fix updates to all security products within the next 48 hours.

Therefore, Win7 and Win8.1 users only need to open Windows Update and periodically install various product updates from Microsoft to fix the security vulnerability.
