Microsoft develops cloud GPS technology

Beijing time on the evening of December 25, Microsoft is developing a GPS energy-saving technology, this technology will be part of the computing task to the cloud, thus avoiding the consumption of a large amount of energy, energy-saving effect of up to 99.96%.

As we all know, if you turn on the GPS function of your smartphone for a long time, the battery will run out quickly. And Microsoft researchers are developing a new technology that can handle some of the GPS functions in the cloud, which greatly saves mobile phone power.

This technology allows GPS chips to collect only the most important data from satellites, while other data is collected through public online databases such as satellite orbits and Earth elevation values.

With the current technology, it takes about 1 joule of power for the smartphone to get the initial GPS correction, while using Microsoft's technology requires only 0.4 millijoules, and the energy saving effect is as high as 99.96%. Researchers say that based on this technology, many new services based on continuous GPS recording can be developed.
