Use the "Selective Startup" option to identify the problem
  1. Click Start and Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Click the General tab and then click Select Startup.
  3. Click on all check boxes under Selective Startup to clear it. You will not be able to clear the Use original BOOT.INI check box.
  4. Click the Process SYSTEM.INI file check box to select it, click OK, and then restart your computer when prompted.

    Repeat this process, one check box at a time. You should restart your computer each time. Repeat this process until the problem occurs.
  5. When a problem occurs, click the tab that corresponds to the selected file. For example, if you have problems selecting the Win.ini file, click the WIN.INI tab in the System Configuration Utility.
