Win2000 terminal implementation on diskless win9X

WBT (Windows Based Termintal) is a standard service introduced by Windows 2000 Server/Advanced Server. It allows users to access the server as a client of the Windows interface and run applications on the server to make the user use their own computer. same. In the WBT network, all application software installation, configuration, operation, and storage are performed on the server, and the client (terminal) is only used as an input and output device. Once the end user logs in to the server, they can use the resources on the server as if they were local resources and run the Windows application on the server. Multiple end users can log in to the server at the same time and work without affecting each other. Such a network is very easy to centrally manage, and is very suitable for LAN construction of schools and SMEs. This feature of WBT is somewhat similar to the early multi-user time-sharing host, but the advantage of WBT is that it is Windows-based, with a friendly graphical interface and Windows usability. In addition, in the WBT network environment, the data transmitted by the network is mainly the input information of the keyboard and the mouse and the output information of the display, and the processing of the data is performed on the server, which greatly reduces the transmission amount of the network. The above characteristics of the terminal make it very suitable for all kinds of education teaching and training occasions. At present, there are many successful experiences on training using win2000 terminal. Most of the schools and training units now use the diskless win95 for teaching. How to use the simplest method while keeping the original equipment in normal operation, the least investment can use the software based on WIN2000, everyone is very issue concerned. The author proposes the following options based on the actual situation of the unit and discusses it with everyone.

A network configuration

Server: PII350/128MB/SCSI 10.2GB

Workstation: 48 Celeron 366/32MB

Other: Switch +3 Hub

Software environment: Netware 4.11 has been configured with diskless WIN95 (not connected to INTERNET)

Configuration of two terminals

Add a Win2000 Advance Server server, join Existing LAN. Since all operations and operations of WBT are performed on the server, it is recommended to configure a higher-end microcomputer or preferably a dedicated server. After installing the server software according to the default settings, configure the following contents in order:

1.TCP/IP protocol configuration

WBT uses TCP/IP protocol when communicating with win2000 server, so First, configure the TCP/IP communication protocol. In general, the server has already configured this step during installation. The specific content includes the IP address of the server. Other settings such as DHCP server, DNS server, and WINS server can be selected according to actual conditions. The author's suggestion is to configure the DHCP server and the WINS server. The client uses the DHCP workstation to automatically obtain the IP address from the server. This configuration can reduce the configuration of the IP address of the client workstation. After configuring the TCP/IP protocol on the server and client, you can run the following command on the client to check whether the setting is successful:

ping 202.103.103.1 where 202.103.103.1 is the IP address of the server, if the communication is successful Indicates that the setting is successful, otherwise it needs to be reset. The set TCP server and workstation TCP/IP settings are as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2:
