Windows system folder is fully revealed

friends We use Windows every day, can you familiarize yourself with its system folder? In the following article we will introduce the role of various Windows operating system folders.

System Folder Details Win9X/Me

It is said that Windows9X still has a lot of users, and Windows Me and Windows9X are very similar. Here you will walk into the main system folder of Windows 9X/Me and see them transparently.

First of all, you need to define a concept. "System folder" refers to the folder where the main files of the operating system are stored. Generally, it is automatically created during the installation of the operating system and the related files are placed in the corresponding folders. The files inside directly affect the normal operation of the system, and most of them are not allowed to change at will.

Command

There are a lot of external command programs under DOS. These gadgets are useful for system crashes in system crashes, such as Bootdisk.Bat files can be used in DOS commands. Create a boot disk on the line.

Cookies

"cookies" folder, which stores some personal information created by the website on your hard disk when users browse certain websites, such as user name, URLs visited, etc. .

Desktop

The desktop folder, the files stored in this folder will be displayed directly on the desktop.

Downloaded Program Files

The folder where the IE download files are stored. It contains the files needed to display the web pages that have been opened (most of the files are used to run animations on web pages). Note: This is not a folder that you must install for the software you downloaded.

Favorites

Favorites folder. We add a web page to the favorites in IE, in fact, the shortcut of the web page is stored in the folder, of course, you can also create more folders under the file to store the collection.

Fonts

Font folder. All the fonts to be used in the system are stored here, so adding new fonts can be done directly by opening the font file by opening the "Install New Fonts" item in the "Font" window of the Control Panel. Some font files that are not commonly used can also be deleted here (but it is best not to delete the screen fonts with the extension .fon, so as not to cause the system to display properly).

Help

The folder where the help files are stored. It includes a lot of very detailed help files. If you have troubles, you can read these help files. They will help users a lot.

History

History folder. When browsing a web page in IE browser, IE will create a history record by default. If you don't want others to know where you are browsing, you can delete the contents of this folder.

Offline Web Pages

The location where offline browsing files are stored. When a site is set to allow offline use, the corresponding file is generated in that folder.

Recent

A folder that records recently opened documents. The content corresponds to the content in the "Document" item in the Start menu, so to clear the recently opened document record, delete the shortcut in the folder directly.

Start Menu

Start Menu Folder. The items in the project correspond to the program items in the start menu, in which the start menu items (such as add, delete, reclassify, etc.) can be adjusted.

Sysbckup

This folder is used to store backup information about the registry and system files.

System

This is the system folder, which stores important files (such as DLL files) in the system. Some software will also copy files to this folder during installation. With the addition of installed software, there will be more and more content in this folder. The files in this folder should not be deleted easily, otherwise it will cause a system error.

System32

A 32-bit system folder with many virtual device files (extension VXD). Deleting them at will causes system errors or even crashes.

Temp

Temporary folder for storing temporary files generated while the system is running. The files in them usually need to be cleaned manually.

Temporary Internet Files

Temporary folder for IE. This folder stores some of the content generated when IE browses the webpage. When the same webpage is opened again, the system will read it from here to speed up browsing. Therefore, properly increasing the space of the temporary folder will make browsing faster (set in "Internet Options" in Control Panel).

System folder details Win2000/XP articles

Now that you have finished the win98/Me system folder, now talk about the popular Win2000/XP system folder. After the system is installed, three folders are generated by default: "WinNT" (Windows for XP), "Documents and Settings" and "Program Files". Compared to Windows 9X/Me, many folders in the system installation directory (Winnt or Windows) have the same effect. Since many of the necessary files for the system are stored under "Documents and Settings", we also introduce it as a system folder. Like "Win9X/Me", we still only cover important common folders.

1. Different folders than Win9X/Me in the installation directory

The role of the same folder as Win9X/Me has already been mentioned in the previous article, and will not be described here. Only the different folders from Win9X/Me are introduced here.

Connection Wizard: The file used to store the "Internet Connection Wizard".

Driver Cache: This folder will usually have an i386 folder, which stores the driver compressed files that will be used (the file usually has dozens of megabytes).

Ime: Input method information is stored in this folder.

Prefetch: Pre-read folder. In order to speed up the access of files, pre-reading technology is used in WinXP, which will generate new information (files with the extension PF) under the folder.

Repair: When installing Win2000/XP for the first time, the system automatically saves AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and other related system files here.

Resources: A folder for storing related desktop themes.

System and System32: Although these two folders are also available in Win9X/Me, almost all system files in Win2000/XP are placed under System32, and only 16-bit drivers are stored under system. A shared runtime of programs and some software.

Temp: This folder has basically no effect in Win2000/XP, because each user has its own special temporary folder (put it under "Documents and Settings", see later).

2. "Documents and Settings" folder

By default, this folder will have Administrator, All users, Default User, LocalService, NetworkService, and created with different user names. Folder (if there are multiple users in the system), in addition to LocalService, NetworkServiceviwl (they are created by the "Service Management" program in WinXP, provided to those programs as a service. If you install Foxmail Server to build a mail server, this Two folders are required by the system, don't modify them at will (the default is implicit). Others configure folders for users, and the folder structure is also the same.

1) to "All Users as an example to illustrate the main content of the user configuration file (some of the folders mentioned below may be implicit attributes, you need to set the system to display all files to see):

1Application Data: Universal application data folder. There are dedicated data for some of the installed applications, which are automatically generated when the software is installed. For example, in the Application data folder of All users, there may be a Microsoft WordStartup folder (if Office is installed, this is the document that is automatically opened when Word starts).

2 "Start" menu folder: Save some of the program groups and shortcuts in the Start menu.

3 Desktop Folder: Store some desktop items of this login user.

Bean Tip: A user's "Start" menu, the items on the desktop include the contents of the above two folders under the corresponding user name folder and the two folders under All Users.

4Templates: Template folder, which may have template files such as Word, Excel, etc., is a reference template for right-clicking and selecting "New".

5 shared documents: Of course, you are allowed to share the stuff of the stuff. Below are two folders, "Share Image" and "Share Music."

2) For different users, there will be under the username folder:

Local Settings: is the "local settings" folder, which stores the application's data, history and Temporary folders, such as History, Temp, and Temporary Internet Files (the same as Win9X/Me).

Application Data: The contents of the Application Data folder under different user folders are also different. For example, Application DataMicrosoft Internet ExplorerQuick Launch stores shortcuts in the Quick Launch toolbar on the right side of the Start menu. Application DataMicrosoftAddress Book It is the OE's address book, and so on.

In addition, there are also folders such as NetHood, PrintHood, Sendto, Favorites, and Desktop under the user folder.

3) If you are on a LAN, when you log in to the system with an account belonging to a domain or a workgroup, there will be "All Users.windows" (for WinXP) or "All Users." in "Documents and Settings". Winnt" (for Win2000) folder; if the system is reinstalled by overwrite, and the same user name is set during the installation process, the installer finds that the folder with the same name already exists when creating the user information. A new user profile folder is automatically created with the "username.computername" naming method.

In addition to the "Program Files" (application folder) there will be some files necessary for the system to run. The contents of this folder will vary greatly depending on the software installed after each person installs the system. There will be "Common Files" (the common library files used by the software) and "Internet Explorer" (IE browser). Not in the installation directory), "Windows Media Player" (media player), etc., will not be detailed here.

Well, I will talk about this, and the small article hopes to help everyone know Windows.
