Managing Windows Server Core Server Shared Folders 1.1.1 Managing Windows Server Core Server Shared Folders Windows Server Core has no graphical interface. Using commands to manage shared files, setting NTFS and sharing permissions is more complicated. A management tool that remotely manages shared folders on a Windows Server Core server. Example: Managing Windows Server Core Server Shared Folders Use the management tools on FileServer to manage shared files on the ProfileServer with the Windows Server Core operating system installed. Steps: 1. Log in to the FileServer server as the domain administrator's user account. 2. Click “Start”à“Program”à“Administrative Tools”à“Share and Storage Management”. 3. Click “Connect to another computer" in the dialog that appears, select “Another computer", enter Profileserver, and click “OK”. 4. Now that the management tool is connected to the ProfileServer, click “Set Share”. 5. In the Shared Folder Locations dialog box, click “Browse”. 6. In the Browse File dialog box that appears, create a folder under E$&R;;Development Drawings", select the folder, click “OK", click “Next”. 7. In the NTFS Permissions dialog that appears, click “Next”. 8. In the Shared Protocols dialog box that appears, select “SMB” by default, the share name defaults to the name of the folder, click “Next”. 9. In the SMB Settings dialog, click “Advanced", set user limits, click “OK”. 10. In the SMB Permissions dialog box that appears, click "Permissions", delete Everyone's access rights, and add “R&D staff" Click “Next”. 11. In the DFS namespace, click “Next” to complete the sharing settings. 12. Select the shared folder you just created and click “Properties", under the Permissions tab of the R&D Drawing Properties dialog box, you can set NTFS permissions and share permissions.
