Vista CD repair function application diagram

Windows XP provides a CD repair function, but its function and its simplicity, few people care about it, is a veritable "chicken rib". Even with the relatively powerful "failure recovery console", those hard-to-remember commands are enough to deter many users.
Compared to XP, the Vista installation CD still retains the boot fix function, but the good news is that it is no longer a chicken rib, not only more powerful, but more importantly, it is very simple to use. Flexibility to use the features it provides will allow Vista to come back to life.

Virus corruption; system boot file loss, disk failure, etc.
In the event of such a failure, many of my friends would rather choose to reinstall the system than enter the high-level failure recovery console and fix it with hard-to-remember commands. This phenomenon no longer exists in the era of Vista, because the ease of use of the fault repair function of the Vista installation CD has been greatly improved, you only need to select the appropriate options, you can automatically complete the repair task.
Using the Vista installation CD to boot the system into the WinPE2 (Windows Preinstallation Environment) window, click the "Next" button, click on the "Repair Computer" link in the window that appears, you will find the installed Vista system ; After finding the installed system and clicking the "Next" button, the "System Recovery Options" window will appear. (Figure 1)

click on the "Auto Repair" link started logging diagnostic test in accordance with the system disk, disk failure diagnosis system, start state testing and other testing The steps are for diagnostic recovery. The repair speed is very fast, and the detailed results after the repair can be obtained after the completion. (Figure 2)

two, into WinRE environment has a higher control over
most simple fault, fix it with the top of the fool The system can be repaired. But for advanced users, what if you need a more flexible command line to perform other system operations (such as partitioning)? Don't worry, the Vista installation CD boot repair system environment is also provided with Windows XP failback control. Similar functions and more features.
The system environment for Vista installation CD boot repair is called WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment), which is based on Windows PE. After booting from the Vista installation CD, click the "Next" button, then click on the "Repair Computer" link in the window that appears to fix the installed Vista system, and then you can enter the WinRE system.
WinRE is a centralized management platform for advanced recovery tools. In addition to the "Startup Recovery" tool that provides automatic diagnostics and repair guidance, it also has an offline system restore that restores the computer, memory diagnostic tools, command prompts, and more from backup. Tip: WinRE not only by the installation CD to boot into Vista, in fact, can also be a number of ways. For example, the OEM can also pre-install the WinRE environment on the computer. This is the OPK (OEM Preinstallation Kit). The enterprise administrator can boot the workstation through PXE through the Windows Deployment Server (Windows Deployment Server). WinRE environment.
Third, install Win RE on the hard disk
If you feel that it is too much trouble to use the installation CD every time you repair, you can also consider installing the WinRE environment on the hard disk to facilitate the repair and boot, provided that you need to install Windows AIK (Windows Automated Installation Kit), which contains commands for deploying images (eg imagex) and offline editing, the wim imaging tool (ie Windows System Image Manager). (4) installation steps are as follows:

(4) Installation
first step: Use boot.wim image solution Imagex command from the Windows Vista installation disc compression and copy the image to a non-WinRe.wim the system partition (when the system crashes, security fixes can increase the probability); (5)

(Figure 5) load boot.vim
copy files (containing the installation directory in Windows AIK, for guidance Enter the WinRE environment) to the same partition. (Figure 6)

(Figure 6) Win RE required documents
Step 2: Run SetAutoFailover.cmd command to configure WinRE environment. (7)

(7) configuration WinRE environment
Note: The above command line needs to "move the line as administrator" Windows AIK in the Windows PE Tools Command Prompt window. When starting the system, press the F8 key to enter the advanced boot menu, select the “Repair your computer” item to enter the WinRE environment. Unlike the CD boot, you need to enter an administrator account to get into the environment, which improves security.
WinRE environment can be grafted to the disk partition. It also shows that the environment is based on WinPE2 and can be booted and re-entered through WinPE image.
Fourth, repair ability test
Earlier we have experienced the ease of use and richness of Vista boot repair function, then, the key is, in the face of various system failures, how is its repair ability? Do the test:
1, repair the boot file: success
In order to detect the boot file repair capabilities, we renamed the Vista boot file bootmgr (equivalent to Windows XP system ntldr) so that the system can not boot properly as shown in Figure 8. Then, use the Vista installation CD to enter the WinRE environment for boot repair. After the repair is completed, it is found that Windows Vista can start normally as shown in Figure 9.

(Figure 8) can not boot the system

(9) after the repair is completed
report found that access to the system boot repair Windows Vista functionality to copy bootmgr active partition, indicating that Windows Vista's boot fix can detect and fix missing boot files.
2, repair dual system boot: not completely successful
We removed the BCD file (boot configuration data file) in the computer with Windows XP and Vista dual system to prevent the system from booting properly. Then use the Vista installation CD to enter The WinRE environment is booted and repaired. After the repair is completed, it is found that Vista can be started normally, but the Boot Manager interface cannot be selected to select Windows XP. After entering the system, it is found that the Vista boot repair only copies the original BCD file to the original directory, and the original BCD file does not have The dual system boot menu prevented access to Windows XP. (Figure 10)

(Figure 10) Windows start menu
the above description of the boot repair Vista's simply fix the MBR and did not add Windows XP boot menu to Boot Manager.
3, repair the master boot record: successful
In order to detect the ability of the main boot, our DiskGen rewrite the master boot record caused the Vista to not start properly. Then use the Vista installation CD to enter the WinRE environment for boot repair. The result suggests that the Vista partition cannot be found and needs to be restarted for repair. After rebooting, check the repair details and find that the Vista startup option has been successfully added. After rebooting, you can boot into Vista.
This shows that Vista's boot-repair feature will be useful when other operating systems (such as Linux) destroy the master boot record, and we no longer have to waste time reinstalling the system to fix the master boot record.
