Dual system or multiple systems share windowsFonts folder

In fact, we can also open the font files of two systems at the same time in one system, find the same font files, copy them to the newly created shared folder, and then Delete them in the two systems separately, and then reload them from the shared folder with the "divided autumn" method, which can greatly reduce the burden on each system; when backing up partitions with backup software (such as Ghost), you can save a lot of space. .

I believe that many friends have installed dual systems or multiple systems. When they need to install new fonts, they also copy the font files to the windowsFonts folder according to the system default installation requirements. When this font is also needed in another system, the font file is also copied to the windowsFonts folder of another system, so that there are several operating systems on one machine, and there are several identical font files on the hard disk. Moreover, there are more than one type of fonts that we need or like. The font files of Chinese characters are relatively large, which is a waste of hard disk space. So is there any way to make a font file shareable in different systems? The answer is yes. There are two ways to do this.

Dual system users must see how to share font file information

One, one master and one slave method

First install one or several font files in one system, install them in the default Fonts folder of the system, and select "Copy fonts to Fonts folder". So these types of fonts are already available in the system. Then enter another system, open the "Font" folder through the "Control Panel", open the "Install New Fonts" dialog box from the "File" menu, select the partition where the previous system is located from the "Drive", and then from the "File" In the folder, select the default font folder Fonts folder of the previous system, so the fonts installed in the previous system will be displayed in the "font list", select these fonts, remove the "copy fonts to the Fonts folder" The checkmark in front of the check box, click "OK", the font will be installed in this system, but the copy to the Fonts folder is only a shortcut to these font files, not the file itself, the space is very small But there is no problem in using it.

Second, the equalization method

The former method has a disadvantage, that is, for some reason we have to reinstall Windows2000, the previously installed font files are lost, if not Reloading these fonts, you can't use them in Windows XP). The "divided autumn method" does not have this shortcoming. The method is: we first copy the font files that need to be installed on both systems to the partitions they can share (should be partitions outside the two systems), create a folder for them, of course, it can also be called Fonts. Then, in both systems, the installation that does not copy the font files to the windowsFonts folder is used, that is, only the shortcuts of the font files are installed on both systems. These two systems can share these font files, and when one system is reinstalled, the other system can still use these fonts as usual.
