Windows 8 will be released in 2012? Have a play

Recent industry rumors that Microsoft will release the next-generation Windows operating system in 2012, and in 2014 will launch the next version of the Office suite of office software. The software station Softpedia recently published an analysis saying that this argument does make sense.

When Windows Vista was released, many Microsoft executives, including CEO Steve Ballmer, promised that Microsoft would never repeat the six-year interval between Windows XP and Vista. . The company will speed up the upgrade of the Windows operating system and release a new Windows operating system every three years or so.

Although Microsoft has not yet confirmed any details about Windows 8, the third-party sources said that Windows 8 will be released before the end of 2012. From the time interval alone, this argument is reasonable: Windows 7 was on July 22, 2009, RTM (incoming platen), and Windows Vista RTM was less than three years apart.

Specifically, Windows Vista entered the RTM state on November 8, 2006, and the RTM day of Windows 7 was three months ahead of the three-year deadline. The global release date of Vista is January 30, 2007, and the release date of Windows 7 is no later than the three-year period.

As of now, Microsoft officials have not announced any changes in the Windows operating system development cycle. Therefore, Windows 8 should indeed be launched within 3 years after the release of Windows 7. In fact, as early as Windows RTM, Microsoft confirmed the start of the Windows 8 R&D project in early 2009. If all goes well, Windows 8 should enter the RTM state by mid-2012. According to this plan, the beta version of Windows 8 is expected to be released in mid-2011.

Look at Office again. In January 2007, Windows Vista and Office 2007 were released at the same time, hoping to complement each other and promote sales with the attitude of “cooperation”. The time for the development of Office 2007, code-named Office 12, was actually on November 6, 2006. However, since then, the development cycle of Office 2010 is slightly longer than Windows 7, and entered RTM on April 15, 2010, which is nearly three and a half years away from Office 2007. The official release time is June 15, 2010, and the interval is basically three years. half.

From the perspective of the simultaneous launch of Windows 7 and Office 2010, Office 15 is not scheduled to be released simultaneously with Windows 8. Based on the three-and-a-half-year interval, Office 15 should be released in early 2014, in line with recent rumors. In other words, the official name of Office 15 should indeed be Office 2014.
