Windows XP is widely used as a user-oriented operating system. However, there are still a lot of skills in the XP system that are not known. Today, I will come and learn these skills with everyone.

Installation:

The most annoying thing for me is to install the system, especially when I install Windows XP, I have to stare at the screen for more than 30 minutes, but I only need to do it for a while. Characters, a few mouse clicks, in order to get rid of the role of "Janitor", the author finally found a solution after searching, that is, unattended installation method suitable for personal needs.

1 Hard Disk Installation

1) Format a floppy disk in pure DOS with the format A:/s command.

2) Create a Config.sys file on the floppy disk and edit the command line:

device=C:\\windows\\himem.sys

(for loading Windows system information file himem.sys, so that DOS system can automatically run smartdrv.exe.)

3), create Autoexec.bat file on the floppy disk, and edit the command line:

C :\\windows\\smartdrv.exe

F:\\i386\\winnt/u:i386\\UNATTEND.TXT /sF:\\i386 /t:D:

(F is the installation folder I386 The logical disk, D is the logical disk of Windows XP, the fully automatic installation answer file created by Windows Installation Manager mentioned in unattend.txt)

4), the startup sequence of the computer in CMOS Set to boot from floppy disk, hard disk, or CD.

5), use the floppy disk to boot, when the green light is off, remove the floppy disk, then the computer will automatically complete the installation.

2, CD installation

1), format a floppy disk in pure DOS with the format A: /s command.

2) Copy the fully automatic installation response file unattend.txt into the floppy disk

3) Create and edit the Config.sys file on the floppy disk:

device= C:\\windows\\command\\ebd\\oakcdrom.sys /d:mscdxxx

device=C:\\windows\\himem.sys

4) Create and edit Autoexec.bat on the floppy disk File:

C:\\windows\\command\\mscdex.exe/d:mscdxxx

C:\\windows\\smartdrv.exe

F:\\I386\\winnt/u :A:\\unattend.txt /s:F:\\i386 /t:D:

Note: xxx in mscdxxx in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat can be any character, but they must be the same .

5) Put the floppy disk and the CD into the machine, and set the boot order of the computer to be booted by CD or floppy disk in CMOS.

6) After the floppy disk light is illuminated twice (the second time is the system is looking for and reading the answer file unattend.txt in the floppy disk), the floppy disk is removed, and then the computer will automatically complete the installation.

3, the production of the answer file

The following is a brief introduction to the production of the answer file unattend.txt mentioned earlier. Locate the Deploy.CAB file in the SUPPORT /Tools directory of the installation disk and unzip it to execute the solved setupmgr.exe program. In the pop-up dialog box, perform the next step to select the new answer file, and then select the installation method. The next task is to operate according to your own configuration habits.

Application:

In order to better use Windows, the author will introduce a few tips for applying applications.

1. Turn off the debugger Dr. Watson;

Dr. Watson will display when the program fails to load or crash. Run drwtsn32, remove all the thread contexts “ dump, otherwise the hard disk will ring for a long time, and it will take up a lot of space. If you have encountered this situation before, please find the user.dmp file and delete it, which can save tens of M space. Then open the registry, find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AeDebug subkey branch, double-click the Auto key name under it, change its "Value data" to 0, and finally press F5 to refresh the setting. Effective, so completely cancel its operation.

2, compressed folder

Windows XP has built-in support for .ZIP files, you can view the zip file as a folder. However, in order to support this operating system to use some resources to achieve this feature, disable this feature can improve system performance. To disable this service you need to unregister zipfldr.dll: Click Start —— Run, type: regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll .

3, set the startup information or increase the warning information

If you want to display some customized information when you start Windows XP, you can follow the steps below: Open the Registry Editor Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\WinLogon subkey branch, double-click the LegalNoticeCaption name under it, open the “edit string” window, and enter the information in the "Value data" text box. The title of the dialog box, such as “welcome”, then double-click LegalNoticeText, and enter the warning message you want to display in the “Edit String” window that appears. For example, “Do not modify the settings of this level arbitrarily”. Click the “OK” button to restart and see the modified effect.
