A few key points in the password setting in Windows

The situation of new Windows security vulnerabilities found in less than a week, more or less causing user panic. How can we ensure the security of the system? As a user, although it is impossible to rewrite the source code of Windows XP, we can still make some settings to make the operating system more secure. The first step in all security settings is to use a password to protect the system. Now introduce the password protection in Windows XP, and some methods of use.

Leave a clue for yourself

Windows XP allows users to create a prompt to get some clues when they forget their password. Open the “Control Panel” and click or double-click the “User Account” icon. The next steps need to be based on your system settings. If you are a system administrator, select your account name and click “change my password> or <;create password" link (if you have not set a password), enter your current password (if it is already set), New password and password hint. Even if you just want to add a password hint, you still need to enter your current password in the top text box.

Note: Make sure that the password prompt helps you remember the password clearly without exposing the password, because everyone can see your password prompt. Once you've done this, click the “Change Password” or “Create Password” button. In this way, when the password is forgotten again when logging in, click on the right side of the password prompt “? The ” button will be able to see the password prompt you have set.

Preventing Forgotten Passwords

If the password hint does not work, Windows provides an alternative solution.

Open the Control Panel and click or double-click the “User Accounts” icon (depending on your system settings). If you are a system administrator, click on your account name and in the “Related Tasks” column on the left side of the “User Accounts” dialog box, find the “Block a Forgotten Password” link. Clicking on this link opens the “Forgot Password Wizard' dialog, which will create a "password reset disk" that allows you to create a new password when you forget your password. If your computer is already logged into the network domain, log back in and log back in to the machine (this method only applies to Windows login passwords, not to domain user passwords). Hold down the “Ctrl+Alt+Delete” key combination, then click the “change password" button, and finally, click the “backup” button to activate “forgot password wizard”.

This wizard warns you at the same time that anyone can change their password with a password reset disk and access your account. With this in mind, you should place this disk in a safe place after you click the “Complete" button to create a password reset disk.

Seek help from users with higher privileges

Even if you forget your Windows login password and don't create a password reset disk, it's not entirely impossible to solve this problem. If your calculation has a system administrator account, you can use this account to log in to Windows and reset the password for other accounts. First, open the Control Panel, click or double-click the “User Accounts” icon (depending on your system settings), select the account name forgot your password and click “Reset Password” and “Change Password” The name depends on whether you are connected to the domain). Enter 2 new passwords as prompted, then click “OK”. (Note: The “Reset Password” button may not work for users who log in to the domain environment. This operation only applies to modifying the Windows login password. It is not applicable to modify the domain login password.) Resetting the Windows password may result in login. The password for the site and network connection is lost, but at least you won't be able to do anything because you forgot your password.
