How to clean up Windows XP redundant files

Have you found that your computer is too fat, too many files, it is time to let it lose weight, but how to effectively clean up redundant files is a big problem.

1.Delete unnecessary files in the system

(1) Delete system file backup

In the system file, there is nearly 250MB in the system32\\dllcache” directory. Files, they are backups of Windows® XP system files. When the Windows XP system files are replaced, deleted or modified, Windows XP can automatically extract the corresponding system file restores to ensure the stability of the system. This folder cannot be deleted directly, but you can clear it by typing the Sfc.exe /purgecache command at the command prompt.

(2) Delete the driver backup

Delete the Driver.cab file in the directory of the "driver cache\\i386" in the Windows XP system directory. This file stores the backup of the hardware driver. No need to use in case. Even if you need to install new hardware, you can insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.

(3) Delete the useless input method

In the "Windows\\ime\\" folder, there are files related to the input method, including the traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean input methods. Most of us are useless. We can delete the three directories “<quo;chtime”,“imjp8_1”,“imkr6_1”, which are traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean input methods, so that we can save 80MB hard disk space. It is.

(4) Deleting Help Files

The help of the initial system of Windows XP is very useful, but as you become more familiar with the system, the help files become more and more Excess, you can consider deleting it at this time. XP help files are stored in the Help folder under the system installation directory, you can delete all the files and directories under it.

2. Reduce the hard disk space occupied by the system

(1) Turn off the system restore

System Restore can return the computer to an earlier time (called the restore point) We won't lose our recent work, but after a long time, it will take up a lot of hard disk space. Therefore, it is necessary to manually set it to reduce the amount of hard disk usage.

Open the "System Properties" dialog box, select the "System Restore" tab in the dialog box, and select the "Close System Restore on All Drives" checkbox to turn off System Restore. If you do not turn off System Restore, you can set up a restore only for the disk or partition on which the system resides. First select the partition where the system is located, click the “Configure” button, in the pop-up dialog box, cancel the “System Restore” option for this drive and set the amount of disk space for system restore.

(2) Turn off hibernation support

Hibernate function will take up a lot of hard disk space. If you use less, you can turn it off. The method of closing is: Open “Control Panel” Double-click "Power Options" to select the "Hibernate" tab in the pop-up "Power Options Properties" dialog box to uncheck the "Enable Hibernate" checkbox.

(3) reduce or disable virtual memory

When the system's physical memory is relatively large, you can consider reducing the value of virtual memory or even cancel virtual memory, when you have 512MB of physical memory Virtual memory is set to half of physical memory, which is 256MB. If you have 1GB of physical memory, you can cancel virtual memory.

To set up virtual memory, see the previous section "Properly setting the page virtual memory".

3.Clear Temporary Files

(1)Clear System Temporary Files

Temporary files of the system are generally stored in two locations: a Temp file in a Windows installation directory. Clip; the other is X:\\Documents and Settings\\“username';\\Local Settings\\Temp folder (X: is the partition where the system is located). Files in both locations can be deleted directly.

(2) Clearing Temporary Internet Files

A long time for Internet access will generate a large number of temporary Internet files. Regular deletion will save a lot of hard disk space.

Open Internet Explorer and select “Internet Options” from the “Tools” menu. In the pop-up dialog box, select the “General” tab, in the “Temporary Internet Temporary File”. In the column, click the "Delete Files" button, and in the pop-up "Delete Files" dialog box, select the "Delete all offline content" checkbox and click the "OK" button.

You can also set the disk occupied by temporary Internet files to an acceptable range, click the “Settings" button in the "Internet Temporary Files" column, and then at “Settings” The dialog box (as shown in the figure) sets the disk space occupied by the temporary file, and can also move the folder of the temporary Internet file to another partition to reduce the occupation of the system partition disk.
