Regarding the similarities and differences between the two methods, you can refer to the relevant reports of IT168. The main thing is: IIS settings are relatively simple, but security is not high; serv-u is relatively more secure. The following is the erection process of IIS.

If you are building a small FTP server (the number of visitors is less than 20 at the same time), and do not carry out large-volume data transmission (such as audio and video) at the same time, then this method is the most Easy to use, but pay attention to the operating system version, IIS is only available for Windows NT/2000/XP systems.

Step 1: Install the IIS component.

This component is not installed during normal system installation, so please go to the control panel and open “Add/Remove Windows Components in the "Add/Remove Programs" In the "intenet information service (IIS)", select; in the lower right corner "details", check the "File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service", and finally determine.

Step 2: Set the directory path to be shared.

This directory is a list of files that others see when they access your FTP server. In the control panel's management tool, open <;internet information service”. Find the “FTP site” on the left side of the window and open the drop-down list. Then right click on the “Default FTP Site” and select the property to switch to the “Main Directory” tab as shown below. In the "Local Path" box, the address is the default FTP share directory, please click Browse to specify to your actual shared directory; in addition, you can also set the file access permissions of the FTP server, for security reasons, generally we only open read Permissions are taken to prevent anonymous users from modifying directory files at will, and legitimate users open the "write" permission when needed.

If your computer configuration is not very good, it is recommended not to exceed 5.

After the above three steps are properly configured, your FTP server should already be working. To be on the safe side, we can test whether the access is normal in the machine. The method is very simple: in the address bar of the browser, type (ftp://the free domain name you applied for in the peanut shell), if you can see that you are The directories and files under the path set in the IIS“home directory”, succeeded.

Added: In the security user settings, IIS is different from other professional FTP server software. It is managed based on Windows user account, but does not support the arbitrary setting to allow access to the account; to add or delete An account that allows access must be set up in the "Computer Management" section of the Control Panel's "Administrative Tools", and then through the IIS "Security Account" tab in the "FTP Site Operator" ”Options to add or remove.

IIS is simple to set up, and the implementation process is fast. It is more suitable for users who are playing server applications for the first time.
