Create a perfect and freely installable Windows XP image

In the past, we used Ghost's Win98/Me operating system image file, which can be cloned unimpeded on other computers, which greatly saves the time of repeatedly installing the operating system on multiple computers, which is especially useful for office and Internet cafes. However, WinXP and Windows Server 2003 will recognize computer hardware devices. Once the hardware changes greatly (for example, replacing the motherboard or CPU), their image files cannot be cloned into other computers for normal use.

In fact, there is a way to make WinXP Ghost image file suitable for any computer. Below, I will use WinXP as an example to demonstrate how to operate, Windows Server 2003 operation method is the same.

Implementation principle: Re-encapsulate the operating system, that is, before returning to the initial installation state, and then make a Ghost image.

●Recommendation:

Reduce WinXP capacity

Firstly reduce the capacity of WinXP in the computer, the main purpose is to reduce the size of the system, and compress the image file to 650MB to 700MB as much as possible. In order to burn the disc.

There are three operations that can be done to significantly reduce the capacity of WinXP.

The first is to close the hibernation function in the "Control Panel" → "Power Options", the system will automatically delete the hiberfil.sys file in the root directory of the C drive, saving the hard disk space is roughly equivalent to the virtual memory capacity .

The second is to use the SFC command to delete the C:WindwosSystem32dll cache folder file, the specific method is: click "Start" → "Run", enter "sfc.exe /purgecache" (do not quote, pay attention to sfc There is a space between .exe and /, which saves about 300MB.

The third is to disable system restore on all drives.

According to the above steps, the total capacity of WinXP can be compressed below 1.2GB.

Note: You need to restart after the above work is completed to be effective.

●Note:

Uninstall and modify hardware drivers

First declare the best use of the PS2 interface mouse and keyboard to prevent the removal of the "Universal Serial Bus Controller" "The USB mouse and USB keyboard did not respond when there was a problem."

Open the Device Manager and uninstall the Network Interface Card, Universal Serial Bus Controller, Sound, Video and Game Controller, Monitor, Display card". To do this, right-click on a certain hardware name and select “Uninstall”. Also, adjust “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller” to “Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller”. Note that if the system requires a reboot, please select "No", do not start!

The resolution of the display must be adjusted to the standard of 800×600 @60Hz to prevent the black screen of the display of other machines from being too high.

At this point, a "clean" WinXP system is ready, and then we can repackage it.

●Key:

Repacking WinXP

The system repackaging tool is provided on the WinXP installation CD. The path is "Disc directory: SUPPORTTOOLSDEPLOY.CAB", if not installed The CD can be downloaded from the Microsoft website. Then create a folder named C:Sysprep in the root directory of the C drive, and extract the WinXP repackaged toolkit DEPLOY.CAB to the directory.

Reminder: WinXP original, SP1, SP2 package kits are different, you need to choose to use.

Finally, click the “Finish” button on the “OEM Replicator String” page and click “OK” in the subsequent Answer File Storage Location dialog box (you must press the close button in the upper right corner of the window to close). Finally completed the establishment of the WinXP automatic installation answer file. The answer file is named sysprep.inf, which is stored in the C:sysprep folder and can be closed by pressing the close button on the window.

18. Next, officially carry out the packaging work of the WinXP operating system. Double-click the C:sysprepsysprep.exe file with your mouse and click the "OK" button in the warning window.

19. Go to the System Preparation Window dialog box before packaging. There are four choices in the Mark check box. The first is to detect non-Plug and Play devices (PnP); the second is to use MiniSetup; the third (NoSIDGen) and the fourth (already activated) are dedicated to XP and above operating systems. of. We should check the last two to four items, and then click the "Reseal" button at the top of the interface (as for "Factory" and "Audit", please don't click it, because just click on it, the computer Will press the settings under "Shutdown Mode" to take effect, then regret it is too late), followed by the computer will automatically shut down, re-encapsulation task is completed. Finally, use the floppy disk or CD to boot the system to the DOS environment, and then use the Ghost software to create a high compression ratio image file to ensure that WinXP can be backed up to a 700MB CD-R burning disc.

At this point, a completely hardware-independent WinXP image file is created.
