Windows XP system application failures and solutions

First, help and support fault highlights Windows XP comes with the "Help and Support Center" component is often the most direct way we understand the ability to view system functions and detect faults. However, when you are looking for an answer to a system component failure and want to find an answer from Windows Help, you find that the life-saving straw is sometimes unreliable. Let's take a look at some of the more common related faults and techniques.

Fault 1: The system does not respond when you run the Start → Help and Support menu.

Solution: First try to enter the "hepctr -regserver" command in "Start → Run" to register the help component again. If the fault persists, open the C:Windowsinf directory (the directory attribute is hidden, you need Set "Show all files and folders" in the Explorer to access), find the pchealth.inf file, right click on it, select the "Install" command to reinstall the help component, the system will prompt to insert Windows XP installation during the installation process plate.

Fault 2: When you press F1 or access using the "Start → Help and Support" menu, the system prompts "Could not start the Help and Support Service on Local Computer. Error 126: The specifIEd module could not be found (Help and Support service cannot be started)".

Solution: First confirm whether the Help and Support service is enabled by running the "services.msc" command to open the "Services" management window and find the name "Help and Support" in the right window. Service, double-click to open, set the Startup Type to Automatic in the General tab, and set the Service Status to Started (Figure 1). It should be noted that this service relies on the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service, please confirm that the service is enabled, otherwise the settings will fail.

If the fault persists, run the "SFC /Scannow" command to verify the Windows file protection. If the system file is changed or lost during the verification process. The system will prompt to insert the Windows XP installation disk and copy the relevant files on the installation disk to the system (Figure 2). If the failure has not been resolved, then from http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/winhlp32.exe
(Windows XP) or http://www.kellys -korner-xp.com/regs_edits/winhlp32sp1.exe
(Windows XP SP1) Download and install the help and support components.

Fault 3: After installing SP1, the help file cannot be accessed, and the win32hlp.exe file cannot be found in the C:Windowssystem32 directory.
Solution: Insert the Windows XP installation CD, open the I386 directory on the CD, and copy the Winhlp32.cn_, Winhlp32.ex_, Winhlp32.hl_ files to a temporary directory on the hard disk, such as C:help. Next run the "cmd" command to open a command prompt window, go to the C:help directory, and then enter the following command:
EXPAND WINHLP32.CN_WINHLP32.CNT
EXPAND WINHLP32.EX_WINHLP32.EXE
EXPAND WINHLP32 .HL_WINHLP32.HLP
Then copy the Winhlp32.exe file to the C:Windows directory and copy Winhlp32.hlp to the C:WindowsHelp directory. Finally delete the C:help directory.
Fault 4: After opening the Help and Support Center, you cannot open the next level of help documentation or the link is in confusion.
Solution: Run the "Regedit" command to open the registry editor, navigate to the "[HKEY_LOCAL_MacHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerEnvironment]" branch, find the "windir" button in the right window, and set its value to "REG_EXPAND_SZ". If the fault persists, try removing the C:WindowsPCHEALTHHELPCTRConfigNews ewsver.XML file. Finally, go to http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Patch/Q328940/

WXP/CN/Q328940_WXP_SP1_x86_EN.exe to download the installation and support security patches.

Windows Help and Support contains a lot of very valuable information, we can save the backups for viewing at any time: Open the C:WindowsHelp directory, in resource management Right-click in the blank space of the window and select the "Arrange Mode→Type" command. Then select all the files in CHM format and save them in a copy. Each CHM file corresponds to the help of a certain functional component of the system, such as "Access.chm" corresponding to the auxiliary function option help, "mmc.chm" corresponding to the MMC console help, etc., you can also use the CHM e-book editing tool to perform it. Process to suit your needs.
