In the Win XP Win XP, add a lock to your drive.

In our computer's hard drive, there are some important data and secret files. We don't want others to see it, especially in the office computer in the company. We always have some private or confidential documents that we don't want to let anyone see. Of course, as a C drive to install the operating system, there are some important system files that cannot be modified or moved by others. And sometimes, in order to protect our computer optical drive and increase its service life, we don't want others to use their own optical drive and other drives to read CDs, install programs and other operations. In previous versions of the WIN XP operating system, if we wanted to implement the functions described above, we had to modify the registry or modify the system files to implement these functions, or use third-party software to add locks to our computer hard drives. Restricting the use of the drive or hiding the drive, modifying the registry is not something that normal users can do. A slight error can cause the entire system to crash. In the WINXP operating system, we don't have to modify the cumbersome registry. The operating system adds this feature to us conveniently. We can limit the use of hidden drives and CDs as we like.

In the Win XP operating system, the system provides us with the powerful function of “Group Policy”. We can implement the limit drive and the hidden drive by setting the detailed parameters in “Group Policy”. Moreover, it is very convenient to operate, and a user who has a basic knowledge of the computer can conveniently implement a function. Let's take a look at the operation process in detail.

First, limit the use of the drive

If we do not want others to use our drive, to view our more important and privacy files, or to modify the removal of system files, such as the installation of the system C Disk or a drive letter with some important files, we can limit the use of an important drive by the following operations.

1. Click Start, click “Run” in the menu, the system will open a “Run” dialog box, enter “gpedit.msc” in this dialog box, click OK or Press the Enter key. A "Group Policy" window will pop up automatically.

2. In the "Group Policy" window, we can see that there are two options "Computer Configuration" and "User Configuration" under the "Local Computer" policy in the left window. Select the "User Configuration" option here, and open the "User Configuration", "Administrative Templates", "WINDOWS Components", "Windows Explorer" options.

3, then we will find In the right window of the entire window, there are some options for us to choose, then next in the settings window on the right, select "Prevent access to the drive from 'My Computer'" item, and click on this option Right click, select "Properties", then the "Protect access to the properties of the drive from the 'My Computer'" settings window, there are three options, respectively, "not configured" "enabled" "disabled", we can system default The "unconfigured" option, we will set the parameters in this dialog box.

4, select "enabled" can be seen, below A drop-down list of selected drives appears. If you want to limit the use of a drive, just select the drive. For example, if we want to limit the use of the C drive, check "Only limit drive C", you can. If you want to close all drives You can choose to "restrict all drives." Select the drive you want to restrict access to, and finally click OK or apply the button to complete the setup process.

After the setup is complete, let's try it out. The drive we set is limited. Open the drive with limited settings, the system automatically pops up a prompt box prohibiting the use of the open drive. It can be seen that our settings are in effect. Even using DIR commands, running dialogs and network drive dialogs Box, you can't view the directory and data of this drive.

Second, hide the drive

If we want to completely hide our drive, the method is very simple, for the convenience of everyone to understand, We also give a detailed introduction to the steps:

1. Click Start, at Click “Run” in the menu, the system will open a “Run” dialog box, enter “gpedit.msc” in this dialog box, click OK or press Enter. The system will automatically pop up a “Group Policy” window. Br>

2. Select the “User Configuration” option and open the “User Configuration”, “Administrative Template”, “WINDOWS Component”, “Windows Explorer” options.

3, in the "Windows Explorer" right side of the settings window, select "Hide these specified drives in my computer" item is also in its properties, there are three choices, we select the "enabled" item, and then In the following drop-down list, select the corresponding drive you want to hide.

After the setup is complete, we will return to the WIN desktop and open my computer. Will we find the drive letter we set? No, here, the entire setup process is complete.

With these two simple settings, we can safely store private files and important data on our computer. I don't have to worry about using our CD-ROM drive for others.

Note that although we hide the drive, users can still access data from these drives and drives from other programs. For example, using Word's "Open" dialog box, you can open the drive we are hiding. At the same time, the disk management tools of WIN XP can also view and modify hidden drives. This is the same as limiting the use of the drive.
