Win2000/XP application magic tricks

Every Windows user wants Windows to start as fast as possible, but if you want Windows to start faster, you need to master some unique tricks to speed up Windows boot!

1. Disk IDE channel that can't be ignored

There is a setting in Windows XP that greatly affects the boot speed, which is the disk IDE channel. In general, Windows XP users do not need to install the IDE driver or patch of the motherboard, and the ULTRA DMA function is already turned on. Because of this, most users will leave the IDE channel in an automatic state, but this will cause Windows XP to start slower - because the motherboard can connect to four IDE devices, but most computers have only two IDE devices, namely the hard disk and Optical drive. A few people may have a single hard drive, dual optical drive (DVD and recorder) or dual hard drive, single optical drive, even if there are only three IDE devices, so usually 1 or 2 IDE channels are idle. At this point, you should set the IDE device that does not exist to "None" instead of "Automatically detect".

Tip: Set the IDE channel by clicking "Start → Control Panel", double-click "System", switch to the "Hardware" tab, click "Device Manager", then double-click "IDE ATA" /ATAPI controller". Double-click on "Main IDE Channel" or "Secondary IDE Channel" below. We can see that the "Device Type" under "Device 0" is not selectable, indicating that the IDE channel is currently in use. The "Device Type" under "Device 1" is optional. If you do not add a new IDE device in the near future, you can set the "Device Type" to "None".

2. Disabling services and enabling Power User

Windows 2000/XP is slower than Windows 9x/Me. Many services are an important factor, so ordinary users disable some useless services and have a very fast startup speed. Big help:

alerter (users are not on the LAN and do not need to manage alerts)

clipbook (users do not need to view the scrapbooking page of the remote scrapbook)

distributed link tracking client ( Users do not use NTFS partitions and are not connected to the LAN.

distributed transaction coordinator (does not need to process multiple databases or file systems at the same time)

fax service (no need to send or receive faxes)

ftp publishing service (your computer is not used as an FTP server)

iis admin service (your computer is not used as a web server)

In addition, it is recommended that you create one Power User users, usually use it to log in to Windows 2000/XP, because it starts less services and is more secure than the administrator.

3. Clean up log files in time

Windows 2000/XP log files are easier to ignore by users. In fact, every time we turn the machine, run the program, the system reports an error, the information will be recorded and saved in the log file. However, log files will grow larger over time, affecting system startup speed. We can specify the size and processing of the log file by yourself:

Go to "Start → Settings → Control Panel → Administrative Tools", double-click "Event Viewer" or click "Start → Run" and enter "eventvwr" After .msc, press Enter to open the Event Viewer. In the right window, you can see the application log, security log, and system log. Right-click on any type of log and select "Properties" to set the maximum value for the log file in the dialog box as shown in the figure. You can also select the processing method when the log is full - generally let It automatically overwrites old logs from a period of time ago so that the log files never exceed the specified size. Click the Filters tab to specify the type of event that needs to be written to the log file.

4. Borrowing Buddha to Speed up Windows 2000 Startup

Compared with Windows 2000, Windows XP has been optimized and improved in many aspects, so the startup speed is faster. Can you let Windows 2000 enjoy this kind of benefit? In fact, just find the corresponding language version file of Windows XP, and then replace the corresponding file of Windows 2000. These two files are NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, and they are all in the root of the system partition. Of course, in order to prevent Windows 2000 errors, it is recommended that users back up the original files of the same name in Windows 2000 before replacing these two files.

5. Let the blue scroll bar scroll only one turn

This is a secret for Windows XP. Open the "Registry Editor", expand the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Session Manager\\Memory Management\\PrefetchParameters] branch, and then double-click the DWORD value "EnablePrefetcher" in the right window to change its value from "3" It is "1". Exit the Registry Editor and restart your computer. You will notice that the scrolling time of the blue scroll bar is significantly reduced when you enter Windows XP!
