Using Winm to receive faxes under WinXP

In fact, now we can see the vast majority of Modem supports fax capabilities. And the Windows operating system we usually use (including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows XP) also has a built-in fax component, but because everyone only wants to use Modem to access the Internet, buying "cat" only pays attention to this purpose, very few Someone noticed its fax function. Today, I will use the Windows XP operating system and ECOM EM-56HAMi built-in Modem as an example to discuss the configuration steps of the fax function.

Step 1 Check if the hardware supports

The first step is to check if your Modem supports fax function. There are many ways to check. You can check the manual and check the Modem manufacturer website. In fact, the easiest way to do this is through the system's "device manager" to check.

Right click on the "My Computer" icon, select "Properties", in the pop-up dialog box, click the "Hardware" tab → "Device Manager" button, the system will pop up the "Device Manager" dialog box. Double-click to expand the "Modem" item, as shown in Figure 1. If there is Data Fax in the red box position on your screen, it means that this Modem supports data fax function.

Step 2 Configure the fax software

Open the “Start” menu→“Settings→Control Panel→Printer or Fax” and click “File” in the “Printers and Faxes” dialog box that pops up. Menu → "Install a local fax printer". This process may prompt you to insert the XP installation CD. After the installation is complete, a fax icon will appear in the current dialog box, as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2

Since we are using the fax function for the first time, the “Fax Configuration Wizard” dialog box will pop up automatically. Click Next to enter the sender information editing area and follow the prompts to enter the corresponding content, as shown in Figure 3. .

Because we want to use Modem as the fax device, we should select the Modem to be set as fax in the “Select Fax Device” field. In this example, “ECOM EM-56HAMi V92 Data Fax Voice Modem”, then select “Allow Receive”. The option is to realize the automatic answering function of the fax machine. At the same time, according to the situation of the unit, it is decided to let the phone ring a few times and then the fax machine automatically answers.

Its function is that when the fax machine is transmitting and receiving work, the information set in the TSID or CSID will appear in the header position of the other party's fax file, so that the other party knows the fax number or company name of the company.

Then it is set whether to print with the printer after receiving the fax, and whether to save the received fax in addition to the inbox and keep a copy to the specified folder. These two points, you can set according to your own company's situation, as shown in Figure 5.

If we want to view the received fax, just click the “Start” menu → “Communication → Accessories → Fax → Fax Console”, you will clearly see the received fax in the “Inbox”, and here also There are detailed receiving time, page number, size, caller and other information to facilitate our inquiry.

I. Send a fax directly

First open the document to be sent, then click "File" menu → "Print", select "Fax" fax machine in "Printer Name", click OK . At this time, Word
2003 will pop up the "Fax Send Wizard" dialog box. After clicking Next, the dialog box shown in Figure 7 appears. We can manually enter the recipient's name and fax number in position 1, or click the "Address Book" button in position 2 to enter the commonly used fax number. It can be called directly when sent later. If you want to send this fax to multiple people at once, you can add the fax numbers of several recipients in turn by clicking the “Add” button at position 3. Then proceed to the next step, the home page selection dialog box appears, ask us to choose a suitable home page, it will appear on the first page of the fax, containing the necessary information such as the sender's name, recipient's name, date of delivery, number of pages, etc. . Finally, click the "Next" button again, and the planned transmission screen as shown in Fig. 8 appears, and it is possible to select when to transmit at position 1, and set the transmission priority at position 2.
