Find out the ins and outs of the error report in WinXP

The application of the computer is very technical and has a strong experience, but the experience will mislead the user to only take steps or focus on some functions. If only the steps are taken, the implementation mechanism is unknown, but only some functions are ignored, but more technologies are ignored. This is the blind spot of knowledge common to computer users. Don't underestimate it. At a critical moment, this reserve of knowledge will play a decisive role.

during running Windows XP system, a program error or illegal operation is the circumstances of each person will encounter a computer. At this time, Windows XP will start the Windows Error Reporting (WER), asking the user whether to send the error message to Microsoft, and the program will stop running. But do you really understand the error reporting mechanism of Windows? How do you control it? In fact, as long as the following two points are resolved, it is not difficult to find out the ins and outs of the "wrong report".

First, do not send an error report to

not to send? The user is guilty. To solve this problem, you should first know what the respective outcomes of the different choices are.

(1) Select not to send, as long as the error still exists, the error report will appear again.

(2) select Send, the system automatically collect information and send it to Microsoft over the Internet. After the report is sent, if the previous person has reported a similar problem, Microsoft will provide a solution to the problem, just click the "Other Information" link, it will open the relevant page (Figure 1). The user can solve the problem by following the prompts on the web page.

From the above results, you should choose to send, but things are not so simple, do you know exactly what the system did when sending the error report? It must be noted here that when the system sends a report, the data that the user is browsing or compiling when the program crashes is also sent to Microsoft. Because the data collected by the error report includes the type of error, the user's recent operations, network information, log files, configuration files, memory snapshots, and software configuration information, many of the user's private information is inadvertently sent to Microsoft along with the report. The company is over.

Tip: At present, many companies or individuals collecting commercial secrets or personal privacy through the Internet, and hastily send an error report is likely to be company secrets or privacy leak out. Although the information leaked in most cases is not very important, users should develop a good sense of self-protection.

Second, error report How to close

"Ning is jade, not seeking for the whole", in order to protect its own rights and interests, it is better not to solve the error or send a report. The rhetoric is easy to say, but the prompt message that may pop up every time you run the wrong program is really annoying. In fact, users can use technology to control the generation of error reports. There are three ways.

1. Selective Close Method

(1) Right click on "My Computer" on the desktop, select the "Properties" command, open the "System Properties" dialog box, then click the "Advanced" tab, then click below "Error Report" button.

(2) In the "Error Reporting" dialog box, check the "Disable Error Reporting" and "Notify me when a serious error occurs" check box. Finally click the "OK" button. So for some minor errors, Windows XP will not pop up an error message.

2. Targeted Closure Method

(1) If an error report is often caused by a program error, you can directly exclude the program from the error report. First, open the "Error Reporting" dialog box as above and check "Enable Error Reporting".

(2) Click the "Select Program" button, click the "Add" button under "Do not report errors for these programs" in the pop-up dialog box, open the "Add Program" dialog box, and then enter The full file name of the program, such as "WINWORD.EXE" (Figure 2).

(3) Click the "OK" button, then the WORD will not pop up an error even if a program error occurs.

3. Completely shut down the law

In addition, you can completely turn off the error reporting service. In the "Run" box, enter the "services.msc" command, open the "Services" window, double-click the "Error Reporting Service" on the right, open the "Error Reporting Service Properties" dialog box, change the "Startup Type" to "Already Disable" (Figure 3), then restart the system after confirming.

Tip: If the reader needs to view the latest error statistics, you can select the "Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools → System Information" command, open the "System Information" dialog box, and then expand the "Software Environment" "Windows Error Report" is fine.
