Linux installation of Fedora through BFO Step

Linux system, using traditional methods to install Fedora is a waste of time, but also takes up space, so what is the simple way to install Fedora? In fact, using BFO can quickly install Fedora, the following small series will introduce you to the way Linux uses BFO to install Fedora.

What is BFO?

BFO, boot.fedoraproject.org, is a way to boot a host and install or run other media over a network. It works much like the pxeboot environment. For details, please refer to the official instructions.

How to use BFO?

BFO has files for the DVD, CD, USB, floppy, and lkrn images, respectively. The file size is very small, so the old-fashioned small-capacity U disk can do the job. Click here to download various media boot files.

Taking the U disk version as an example, after downloading the corresponding U disk version image (bfo.usb), you can use the DD command to write the image to the U disk.

” id if=/pathto/bfo.usb of=/dev/sdb

where pathto is the directory where the downloaded bfo.usb file is located. /dev/sdb is the name of the U disk device you want to use. Once you've written it, you can use it to install Fedora.

Installing Fedora via BFO

Prerequisite: The computer can connect to a stable Internet; the computer can boot from a USB drive, CD, floppy disk, etc., and set the boot order to prioritize these devices.

The following is a U disk as an example:

1. Insert the USB flash drive and turn it on. Under normal circumstances, you will see the interface shown in Figure 1:

2, and then after that there will be an interface similar to Figure 2 (only if you are unfortunate enough to see a black screen boot: that do not worry , see later):

3, select Install currently supported Fedora releases, then return, then you will see the same as in Figure 3 Fedora releases a list of currently still supported:

4, where you can directly select Fedora version you want to install, and then return, after entering the installation process of Fedora, FIG 5:

5. Of course, you can also press the Tab key to display or edit the options after selecting the version you want to install. Here you can change the default kernel, kernel image, and source address to other addresses you need. For example, it can be modified to a faster source address. You can also add the path to the kickstart file for automated installation.

I said earlier that if you are unfortunate enough to only see the black screen boot: prompt, just type this at the prompt and press Enter. In this case, it is best to be patient and be careful, because you accidentally enter the error and you need to re-enter it completely. You might say, who will remember this long list of things! In fact, this is not complicated, just three URLs. The first is the location of vmlinuz, the second is the location of initrd.img, and the other is the location of the repo. These three URLs generally point to a source and are therefore not particularly complicated. Of course, there is a black screen boot: The probability of the prompt is not large.

The latter process is the Fedora installation process, no need to say more.

Summary

The above is the introduction of Linux using BFO to install Fedora. It should be noted that the installation process requires the use of the network, so ensure that your network is smooth before installation.
