IRC Proxy

IRC is an acronym for InternetRelayChat. It is a widely used standard for online chat. Its proxy configuration is implemented through mapping links. IRC has a variety of client software, here to use the more Microsoftchat as the IRC client software to explain its configuration.

When configuring the WinGate service, just create a TCP mapping proxy on port 6667. The mapping server entry enters the IRC server to log in. When using MicrosoftChat, you can use: mschat.msn.com, the port is set to 6667.

While the MicrosoftChat client does not require additional settings, just enter the name or address of the host running WinGate in the login server entry.

Configuring ICQ Proxy

Some people call it "online pager" by ICQ, and its configuration is more complicated. On WinGate, you need to add a UDP mapping service, select the General tab, accept the connection on port 3333, and map to the ICQ server icq.mirabilis.com by default, port: 4000.

ICQ client settings (taking ICQ98a as an example): Run ICQ, click the ICQ button, select Preferences, and a setup window pops up. Set the Connection tab and select "Iamusingapermanentinternetconnection(LAN)" and "Iambehindafirewallorproxy". Click the Firewall Settings button, select "IamusingaSOCKS4proxyserver", do not select the "Firewallsessionstimeoutafter..." box, then click Next to continue setting, enter the WinGate hostname or address in the SOCKS4 host entry, and set the port number to 1080 (should be The consistency set by WinGate). Select "UseamappedportonaProxy", here enter the WinGate hostname and the port number 3333 used by the ICQ proxy.

WinGate can encrypt on the mapped link to establish a secure WinGate to WinGate mapping link data channel. In this way, the company's two internal LANs can transmit secure data over the Internet.

The WinGate dialer is used to manage Internet connectivity. Multiple different ISP accounts can be configured. Access can also be restricted by user/group or by other parameters such as which server the user connects to. By setting the dialing property of WinGate and connecting to the Internet by dialing, you can use the NT dial-up network to set it to automatic dialing. That is, when the client accesses the Internet, the user does not need to manually start the dialing service. WinGate automatically dials the dialing program of NT. Log out and log in to the ISP's host.

If a workstation has TCP/IP connectivity through the router and the LAN where WinGate is located, WinGate can still be used as a proxy server to access the Internet through proper settings. The problem to be aware of is that when establishing a PPP connection with an ISP through dial-up, it is generally necessary to use a gateway of a remote network (ie, an ISP) as a default gateway. In this way, workstations that are not on the LAN cannot access the Internet due to the inaccessibility of the route. The solution is to add a static routing entry to the WinGate machine. That is, the routing table is modified by the route command.

Modify the value of WinGate in the registry by running the Regedit.exe program (this operation should be careful, modification errors may cause some fatal problems), you can complete some advanced operations. If you want to turn WinGate's prompt information "AccessDenied" into "access denied", you can modify the data in the registry key AccessDeniedTitle, that is, find the key value, modify it from AccessDeniedTitle="AccessDenied" to: AccessDeniedTitle=“Access Denied”. For other related error tips, please refer to the key value under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\QbikSoftware\\WinGate4.3\\ErrorStrings\\HTTP].
