Check File System is used to verify the integrity of the Windows 98 system file utilities. You can enter “SFC” directly in the "Start →Run" command line. The specific use of it is described below.

I. Scanned changed files

1. When you want to perform regular check, you can select <; System File Checker> in the window to scan the changed file&rdquo With the option, you can detect if any system files have been altered or deleted.

2, click the "Settings" button below, you can set the scanning method, for example, you can set to check only the modified file, the deleted file or both. Click the “OK" button to return to the <;System File Checker" window and then simply click the “Start” button to scan.

3. When a problem occurs in a file, a corresponding warning window will pop up, and the file name and its location will be displayed at the same time. There are four options here: update verification information, restore files, ignore, and update verification information for all changed files. In general, if you have recently installed the software, there will definitely be some corresponding system files changed. Similarly, if you uninstall the software, it is possible to delete some shared system files. Here you can select the "Update verification information" option, it is recommended to run the system file checker when the system is running normally, and record the changes of the file for later comparison. Only when the system is in use usually prompts a problem with the system file or the system file is clearly indicated during the scanning process, we need to repair it. Of course, we can first consider  restore the file”.

4, select the "Restore Files" option in the warning window, and click the "OK" button, the "Restore Files" window will pop up, in the "Restore from" & rdquo; The folder where the original file is specified in the item can be restored from the system backup in most cases. You can enter the folder where the system backup file is located (for example, D:\\Backup\\Win98se\\Win98se\\). Then enter the folder where the system file is located (for example, C:\\Windows\\System) in the "Save file to" box. If you can't recover files from a system backup, you can only extract files from the installation disk.

Second, extract files from the installation disk

1. If we pop up the "Illegal operation" in the process of operating the computer, you can click "Details" ; button, through the details we can very clearly see which file caused the "illegal operation". Of course, sometimes the computer will tell you directly when it starts up, “×dll file missing ……”.

2, open the "System File Checker" window as above, click to select "Extract a file from the installation floppy disk" item. Then enter the file name in the "Please specify the system file you want to restore" box.

3, the next will pop up "Restore Files" window, enter the path of the Windows installation disk in the "Restore" box, in the "Save file to" box to specify to restore The folder where the file is located, click the "OK" button.

4. If the file extraction is successful, a dialog box will pop up asking to restart the computer, click the "yes" button.

5, if you do not have a system installation disk, and want to recover damaged or lost system files, you can use the system backup file to update the system, the specific method is to D:\\Backup\\Win98se\\Win98se\\ And double-click the “Setup” command, then follow the prompts to do it.
