In the past few months, many users have reported to Microsoft that they still need to continue to provide support for IE6 applications during the deployment of Windows 7 and IE8. Stephen L Rose, senior community director of Windows IT Professional Clients, said on an official blog today that Microsoft provides a variety of recommendations, files and application compatibility lists for such users. Rose summarizes these resources as follows:

—Migrating from IE6 for Windows XP to IE8 for Windows 7: What if you have deployed or are deploying Windows 7, but are running an IE6-based web application? Microsoft will host a technical conference on September 30 to provide IE6 with tactics, standards and technical support for IE8 migration.

—IE8 Application Compatibility List: This document lists which software is compatible with IE8, which software is not compatible with IE8, and is updated frequently, which is very useful for IT professionals;

— Resolving application compatibility issues during IE8 migration: Many enterprises are still using IE6-based web applications. If you want to deploy Windows 7, then these enterprises need a complete strategy and executable route to migrate old applications to IE8.
