When browsing a picture or video file on a Windows 8 system. Sometimes the icon, the thumbnail will not display properly, usually if the situation is not poisoned, the relevant cache file is a problem.

Thumbnails displayed when browsing files are generally stored in a cache folder to facilitate faster browsing next time, but sometimes the cache file will crash and you will need to rebuild the cache file.

Steps:

Rebuilding Windows 8 Thumbnail Cache Method 1:

1. Type “Disk Cleanup in the search bar on the right side of the Windows 8 Metro desktop. Find disk cleanup, which is different from Windows 7 system (requires right click on C drive - Properties - Disk Cleanup).

2, now you need to do is in the "to delete files" column, check the "thumbnails" item. Then, select “OK”.

Rebuilding Windows 8 Thumbnail Method 2:

1. Enter the following address in the address bar and press Enter.

%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsExplorer

2 According to the size of the icon, the following four .db files are saved in the folder, please delete them all.

thumbcache_32.db

thumbcache_96.db

thumbcache_256.db

thumbcache_1024.db

After clearing these icon caches, Open the file and the thumbnail should be back to normal.
