Microsoft will merge WP and Windows Store

Computer Store News: Microsoft is planning to merge the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store into a single app store. According to people familiar with the matter, Microsoft's operating system division Terry · Terry Myerson confirmed the action on Thursday at an internal meeting attended by thousands of Microsoft employees.

Myerson didn't disclose how a single app store works, nor does it say that Windows Phone apps can run on Windows on a new model. Myerson previously publicly commented that he believes that the future of Windows RT lies in mobile phones and tablets. He said at a recent analyst meeting: "Windows RT is our first ARM tablet. As mobile phones expand to tablets, we expect to see more ARM tablets and Windows ARM tablets in the future.

Microsoft may adopt a similar approach to the Apple App Store. In the Apple App Store, tablet-specific apps don't run on phones. However, the mobile app can run on a tablet. Microsoft has promised to launch a unified platform between mobile phones and computer operating systems. Myerson previously said that all applications that Microsoft provides for an end user should be able to run on all of our devices.
