Windows 8 will support retina-grade tablet display

If the device manufacturer works together, the Windows 8 tablet and its hybrid product display will be able to withstand or even surpass the retina display used by Apple's new iPad.

Microsoft Windows President Steven. Steven Sinofsky pointed to Apple's new iPad display on the Microsoft Building Windows 8 blog, and said that the future tablet DPI (point density per inch) is at least 135. He wrote: "The future of the tablet The resolution is much higher than the current product resolution. ”

The following points related to tablet displays are discussed in the Sinowski blog:

. Windows 8 tablets have a pixel density of 135 DPI and above: a large number of Windows 8 tablets have a pixel density of at least 135 DPI. Sinowski pointed out that the future HD tablet will have a pixel resolution of 1920x1080 on the 11.6-inch display. The density is 190 DPI; the quad-XGA tablet has a pixel resolution of 253 DPI at a pixel resolution of 2560×1440 on an 11.6-inch display.

. The new iPad display: Sinowski wrote: "Someone may be curious about the new iPad display. The pixel density of the new iPad display doubles when the display size is the same. Compared with the iPad 2, the picture is more vivid due to the improved resolution. ”

. Scaling: Windows 8 apps can fill in the effective space by providing more content. Developer-created apps can display more content when displayed on a tablet display to a larger desktop display. Windows 8 helps application developers develop applications that fit different display sizes by supporting standards-based adaptive layouts in the application platform.

. Apps don't have to take advantage of more display space: the ability to display more content on the display doesn't mean that every app uses space. Sinowski pointed out that we should consider fixed-size applications. A large display or a large number of empty areas is not good. At present, most websites do not adjust for large-size displays, and there is a tendency to leave a lot of space.

. Minimum display resolution: Microsoft chose 1024x768 for minimum. This resolution is sufficient to support the layout of Metro style apps. Lower resolution, such as 800x600 resolution, requires a simpler layout and less content. Currently the website usually sets 1024x768 to the lowest resolution. Sinowski also pointed out: "We found that only 1.2% of active Windows 7 users have a display resolution of less than 1024x768."

. Minimum display resolution and “Snapshot”: When supporting all Windows 8 features including multitasking snapshots, the resolution requirement is 1366x768. The purpose of this resolution is to have enough horizontal pixels to accommodate a width of 320 pixels. The snapshot application and the main application with a width of 1024 pixels.

In contrast, Apple's new iPad display measures 9.7 inches, with a resolution of 2048x1536 and a pixel density of 264DPI.
