Windows 8 preview version expires on January 15th

December 27, 2012 news, two months ago today, Windows 8 officially launched, and Microsoft also provided users with three versions of Windows 8 (developer Preview version of the edition, consumer version, release version) for experiencing and feeling the charm of the new system. Now, the preview versions of these three versions are about to expire, with a specific expiration date of January 15.

In the three versions, the preview version of the developer version of Windows 8 has the earliest expiration date, which should have been discontinued on April 8 this year. But later, Microsoft relaxed its lifespan and adjusted its expiration date to January 15 next year. At that time, all previewed systems will send a message to the user, indicating that the system will restart every hour until the user enters the activation verification code for the official version of the new product.

If users want to upgrade directly from the preview to the final commercial version of Windows 8, they need to be aware that not all settings and files in the preview will be saved during the upgrade process. If the user is using the developer version or the consumer version of Windows 8 Preview, they can only retrieve the files in the windows.old folder after the system is upgraded. If the user uses the format release version of Windows 8 Preview, their personal files can be saved intact by the system during the upgrade.
