Ozzie: Windows 8 fate will determine the future of Microsoft

  

Thomson Reuters reports that Microsoft Corp.'s former software chief RayOzzie asked at a technology seminar in Seattle on the 7th: "People are still arguing whether we are in the post-PC world? Why debate? We are of course positive In the post-PC world! Ozzie, the inventor of the well-known e-mail software and the leader of the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, succeeded Bill Gates in 2006 as Microsoft software design chief, but he subsequently left in 2010.

Ozzie pointed out that the fate of Windows 8 will determine the future of Microsoft. He said that in this world of mobile phones, tablets and various devices, people's interest in general-purpose computing devices such as desktop computers is not as good as ever. The annual shipments of smart phones have surpassed PCs last year, and flat-panel shipments are also accelerating.

Microsoft's latest quarter (October-December 2011) financial report shows that "Windows & Windows Live Department" accounted for 23%, 36% of revenue, revenue, respectively. On the other hand, the “Enterprise Sector (Responsible for Office Product Line)” revenue contribution reached 30.01%, ranking the highest in all sectors; its contribution to equity contribution was as high as 51.9%. The research institute NPDDisplaySearch announced on February 23 that shipments of global mobile PCs (including notebook computers and tablets) increased 44% (12% quarter-on-quarter) to 88 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011. Among them, tablet PC shipments increased by 210% (42% quarter-on-quarter) to 31.7 million units. Shipments of notebooks increased by nearly 11% (to 0% in the quarter) to 56.3 million units.
