Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" next version "Wheezy"

  

At the Debconf 10 Developer Conference in New York, USA, the Debian release director announced a major release of Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" This means that Debian “Squeeze” will not add new features, and future work will be completely transferred to stability.

Debian 6.0 will use the Linux 2.6.32 kernel. Other major components include:

— KDE 4.4.5, Gnome 2.30.0, LXDE 0.5.0, XFCE 4.6.2, X .org 7.5, OpenOffice.org 3.2.1;

— Apache 2.2.16, PHP 5.3.2, MySQL 5.1.48, PostgreSQL 8.4.4 and Samba 3.4;

— Python 2.6 and 3.1, Perl 5.10, GHC 6.12, and GCC 4.4;

— DKMS.

In addition, the developer also announced that the next version of Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" is codenamed "Wheezy". The names of the Debian distributions are taken from the characters in the "Toy Story" movie series. Debian 6.0 "Squeeze" is a green big mouth toy alien with three eyes in the movie; Wheezy is a vocal penguin toy with a red bow tie He will scream when you pinch him.
