Windows Server 2008 R2 Hot Add Delete Virtual Storage

Q: I think that Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V supports hot add and delete virtual storage, but there is no corresponding option in the virtual machine (VM) settings, what is going on?

Answer: Hot-added or deleted storage (VHD or pass) is only available for virtual SCSI controllers, not virtual IDE controllers. You cannot add or remove memory on the IDE controller running the virtual machine. If you want to use the hot add and delete storage features, you can add a virtual SCSI controller.
