How to use automatic system failure recovery
To recover from a system failure using Automatic System Recovery (ASR), perform the following steps:
  1. In your Before starting the recovery process, make sure you have the following items at hand:
  2. ASR floppy disk you created earlier.
  3. The backup media you created earlier.
  4. The original operating system installation CD.
  5. If you have a mass storage controller and know that the manufacturer has provided it with a separate driver file (this driver file is different from the driver file provided on the installation CD), before you begin this process Get the file (on a floppy disk).

  6. the original operating system installation CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  7. Restart your computer. If you are prompted to press a key to start your computer from the disc, press the appropriate button.
  8. If you have a separate driver file as described in step 1, press F6 when prompted to use the driver as part of the installation.
  9. When the system prompts you at the beginning of the installed plain text mode, press the F2 key.

    You will be prompted to insert the ASR floppy disk you created earlier.
  10. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  11. If you have a separate driver file as described in step 1, press F6 (second time) when prompted after the system restarts.
  12. Follow the instructions on the screen.

    Note:
  13. ASR does not restore your data files. For more information on backing up and restoring data files, see the Windows Help.
  14. If all the nodes in the server cluster you are restoring fail and you cannot restore the quorum disk from the backup, use the ASR on each node in the original cluster to restore the disk signature and the partition layout of the cluster disk (arbitration and non-quorum arbitration).
