ZDNET's new report states that Microsoft has announced an extension of the Windows Vista and Windows 7 lifecycle. The life cycle of Windows Vista will end on April 11, 2017, while Windows 7 will be on January 14, 2020.

Microsoft's support for both systems will last for 10 years. The Windows XP support cycle will end on April 8, 2014.

Previously, the consumer version of Windows only provided 5 years of mainstream technical support, while the enterprise version of Windows received 5 years of additional technical support. According to previous policies, Microsoft's mainstream technical support for the consumer version of Windows Vista will end in less than two months, April 10, 2012.
