Error code resolution when updating Windows Defender

When you try to update Microsoft Windows Defender on a Windows Vista computer, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Found error 0x80240029 code.

The reason is that this problem occurs because the SoftwareDistribution folder is damaged.

Workaround: To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Start your computer in Safe Mode. Everyone should know this step! First of all, of course you have to restart your computer and then press F8 to restart your computer. (Note that you need to press the F8 key before the Windows Vista progress display.) Finally, when the Advanced Boot Options menu appears, use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER.

2. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder.

First enter the system disk, usually C:\\Windows is the path to the Windows system folder. Locate the SoftwareDistribution folder at C:\\Windows. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename. Type SoftwareDistribution.old and press Enter.

3. Restart your computer.
