About improving operating system reloading

The operating system needs to be reinstalled

The first thing to understand is, what does "reloading" mean here? In fact, the so-called "reloading" refers to reinstalling the operating system. Starting from the current actual situation, it is estimated that few ordinary users will choose other operating systems such as Linux, OS/2, Unix, etc., so we refer here. It is to reinstall the Windows operating system.

When installing an operating system in general, it often involves new installation, upgrade installation, installation under Windows, installation under DOS
, etc. The meanings of various installation methods are as follows:

● New installation: Install an operating system in addition to the original operating system, which is what we usually call multiple operating systems. If you still want to use the previous operating system, or if you are not so comfortable with the new version of Windows, but just want to try it for a while, then the "new installation" method is the most ideal. The advantage of this method is that the security is higher, the original system will not be harmed, and the common ones are Windows 98/2000 and Windows 98/XP.

● Upgrade installation: Upgrade the original operating system, for example, from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The advantage of this method is that the original program, data, settings will not change, hardware There are fewer problems with compatibility. The disadvantage is of course that upgrading is easy to recover.

● Installation under Windows: This is the easiest way to install. Insert the installation CD to run the installer in the Windows desktop environment. The advantage is that the interface is familiar and easy to operate.

DOS
Installation: This is the installation method used by the master. It needs to be done in the dark DOS
prompt, so you can master this installation method. Generally speaking, they are masters. Usually, we only need to set up the CD-ROM drive in BiOS, then start the system with the Windows installation CD, the installation program will run automatically; or you can manually execute the Setup.exe program in the Windows environment.

Tip: If you are reinstalling the system under DOS
, please backup and load smartdrv.exe (disk cache) beforehand, otherwise the installation speed will be slow.

Since we are considering reinstalling the system, it is naturally not involved in the upgrade installation. Generally speaking, there are two situations:

Passive reloading

For various reasons For example, if the user misuses the virus or the Trojan horse, the important files in the system are damaged, and even the crash cannot be started. At this time, the system has to be reinstalled. Sometimes, although the system is running normally, but there is an error from time to time, it is better to reload it than to take time and effort to find it.

Active Reloading

Some DIY enthusiasts who like to play with computers, even if the system is working properly, they will reinstall the system regularly, in order to lose weight on the bloated system. It allows the system to work in an optimal state.

Tip: Whether it is active reloading or passive reloading, it can be divided into coverage reloading and new reloading. The former is reinstalled on the basis of the original operating system. The advantage is that it can be retained. The disadvantage of the original system setting is that it cannot completely solve the problems in the system. After all, the palliative is not a cure; the latter is to reformat the partition where the operating system is located. Sometimes, for the sake of completeness, it may be re-partitioned. The operating system reinstalled on this basis is almost completely installed. This reinstallation method is more thorough. It can not only solve the original errors in the system once and for all, but also completely kill the possible viruses. It is strongly recommended to use this reloading. the way.

Preparation before system reinstallation

System reinstallation is a relatively large project. According to the author's experience, partitioning, formatting, installing the system, and installing the driver are counted. It takes at least 2 to 3 hours. If the system is configured a little later, it may take more time. Before you reinstall the system, the following preparations are essential:

Backing up important data

Although upgrading the system will not be of much danger, it must be prepared. It is recommended that friends back up important data in the system before upgrading, especially email account configuration/address book, QQ friends list/chat record, MSN Messenger contact list, favorites list, CookIEs, etc. Your personal document.

When backing up the above information, you can back it up manually or use a third-party tool software to back up one by one. If you are using Windows XP, you can use the built-in "File and Settings Transfer Wizard". This is a great backup tool and can be found in Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools.

● Export data

Step1 As shown in Figure 1, since we are performing the operation of exporting data, we should select "old computer" here, then click the "Next" button, wait a moment. After a few moments, you will see a dialog box prompting you to select the transfer method, which lists direct cable, home network or small office network, floppy disk drive, other removable media, and other options. It is recommended to select the "Other" item so that Files and settings are saved to any disk or folder, such as floppy disks, USB flash drives, and users are more free and more optional.

Step2 When you see the dialog box in Figure 2, you can freely choose to transfer the project according to your needs. You can only transfer settings or transfer files only, or you can transfer files and settings at the same time. These settings include IE. Settings, Microsoft Messenger, Microsoft Netmeeting, MSN Explorer, Outlook Express, Windows Media Player, locale, taskbar options, display properties, shared documents, desktop, my documents, and more. Of course, you can also re-customize the file and settings list, click the "Next" button and you can export to the specified path.

● Import data

When you need to import data, you should select the “New Computer” item in the window of Figure 1. When you see the window in Figure 3, please select according to the actual situation. Since we selected the "Other" item earlier, we should select the "I don't need the wizard disk, I have collected files and settings from the old computer" item, then select the "Other" item, then click the "Next" button. Data can be imported. The process is completely automatic, and the only thing that needs manual intervention is that you need to restart the system or log off the system to take effect after the import is complete.

Backup Driver

After reinstalling the system, the driver installation is also a big problem, although Windows XP can recognize a lot of hardware, but Some new hardware devices may still require manual installation of drivers. If you can find the corresponding driver CD/floppy disk at hand, then don't need to say more, but what if the driver CD/floppy disk has been lost?

● Internet download: Save the corresponding driver downloaded from the Internet in advance on the USB flash drive or mobile hard disk, or you can burn it to the CD.

● Hand export: This of course does not refer to the manual for Find * .inf file export, we can use Driver Genius 2004 Driver Genius 2005 Backup software drivers (see Figure 4), the specific operation here Not much to say.

Essential Tools

Please prepare a Windows 98 Super Startup Disk. Note that this does not refer to the boot disk created by the Format A:/s command in the Windows 98 command line mode. It is not a floppy disk formatted from the "Explorer", but a boot disk created when Windows 98 is installed, or after the installation is completed in "Control Panel"
