Blade Server Hard Drive Boot Linux Standalone Installation (3)

You can customize the partition configuration, but remember: don't create and format the original partition.

Step 8: Copy the installation configuration file

Copy the SUSE silent installation configuration file autoinst.xml to /mnt/sdb, that is, the folder where disk B is mounted. .

Step 9: Create/Modify grub configuration file

Create grub configuration file /mnt/sdb/boot/grub/menu.lst and add the following content :

Listing 9: Updating the grub configuration file

color white/blue black/light-graydefaulttimeout 30title SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation root ( Hd0,0) kernel /boot/linux root=/dev/sda1 ramdisk_size=8192 install=hd://sda1/SUSE autoyast=file:///mounts/extra/autoinst.xml splash=silent showopts initrd /boot/initrd

The ninth step needs to be noted:

· The system will find the installation image from the disk, and the installation image protocol location is hd, which refers to the hard disk.

· The protocol for autoyast should be that the file is not a device. (The protocol does not work, but the autoyast document says it supports the device and is estimated to be a bug in SUSE).

· The system will mount the original partition to the folder /mounts/extra during installation so that the system needs to find the autoyast file in the /mounts/extra folder.

· Here we can't use add-ons to add parameters to the kernel.

After completing the ninth step:

· Turn off the power of system A and pull disk B out of it.

· Insert disk B into system B as a drive disk.

· Turn on System B and System B will start installing SUSE. Wait for System B to install the operating system; System B will reboot again during the installation and automatically complete the installation.

· System B is now ready.

If the user wants to revert back to the original state, the user can select the menu item SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation during system startup, the system will format the user's partition and the user's partition Install SUSE.

This way we are done!

Conclusions:

These steps guide you through the preparation of a bootable self-installing hard drive. When the system boots, the system automatically installs the operating system with this driver. And the installation process will automatically detect the hardware and make changes when it needs to be changed. This process is more flexible than simply installing SUSE on disk and allows the system to boot from it.
