Use pws to build your own web server

Introduction:
The full name of PWS is Personal Web Server, which is suitable for creating small personal sites. It can be used to debug your website without going online, which can save money on the Internet. PWS provides support for ASP programs. Currently, many chat rooms, guestbooks, and BBS forums are written in ASP. Of course, you can use it as a base and install some plugins yourself to support your PHP and JSP. With it installed, you can turn your machine into a small web server. Your friends can access your website through the dynamic domain name service of Xiwang, and share the friendship together, so that you can add Internet management.
Installation:
PWS is included in the complete Win 98 CD, which is located in the add-onspws folder of the CD. If you can't find the Win98 disk, you can download it here. Then run setup.exe, and you can press Enter all the way through the installation process. After the installation is completed, the PWS will start up and a PWS run icon will appear in the system tray. Double-click this icon and the main window of PWS will appear (see Figure 1). Click on the "Advanced" icon in the lower left corner of the window to open a window (see Figure 2). The important settings of PWS are all in it. Let's take a look at an example of how to publish your personal web page using PWS.

Published articles:
a set of virtual directory
assume that your page is stored in the D: \\ under myweb, page document, entitled myindex.htm. First select the virtual directory in Figure 2, click the "Add" button, in the "Add Directory" dialog box (see Figure 3), click "Browse", specify the drive letter and directory where your web page is located, here is D :\\myweb, click "OK" to return to the "Add Directory" dialog box, set a directory name for this virtual directory, which is "alias", set to myweb here (but just set it, when a friend visits your website) Directory name).

Security Recommendations: Set the access permissions for the directory to "Read" and "Script". For security reasons, do not select the "Execute" permission.

Second, set the default document
Next, you can set up a virtual directory in the document under automatic operation by default. The purpose of this document is that when you enter the site, if you do not specify a document to access, the server automatically provides a default document for access. In Figure 2, select the "Enable default document" checkbox and in the "Default document" box, enter your own home page name myindex.htm. Security recommendations: As above, for security reasons, do not check the "Allow browsing of directories" checkbox.

Third, create an access record
Finally, you can create a "black box" to record the IP address of the visitor, access time and access content. Select the "Save web site activity log" checkbox in Figure 2, the server will create a "black box" file named ncyymm.log in the c:windowssystemogfiles

w3svc1 folder (yy is the year, Mm is the month). This file can be viewed with a text editor or with the TYPE command in a DOS window. At this point, your page has been published.

access articles:
open IE, enter localhost /myweb in the address bar, regardless of whether you can debug their own Internet site. Of course, you can also use a special IP - the return address, which is 127.0.0.1/myweb.
If you want to invite friends to your site, you must be online so others can access your site. Since most of us use Modem to dial up or install broadband, there are very few fixed IP addresses. To find out your own IP, set the IP address of your domain name (assuming your domain name is myweb.3322.org) with the client of the dynamic domain name of Hsinet. For your friends, they always have access. : http://domain name registered in the Greek network /any virtual directory name you set, here http://myweb.3322.org/myweb, they can come to visit your home page.
