Refuse to flick: software installation look carefully

Many of the current software is relatively user-friendly, especially during installation, all the way to the "next step" can be completed. But this is not the best installation. In the process of installing the software, you often need to choose the installation method yourself, one is to meet your own needs; the second is to avoid some junk software.

The most common installation methods are minimum installation, typical installation, custom and full installation. What is the difference between these methods? According to what to choose the installation method that suits you? Let's talk about this small problem with the installation of MicroSoft Office 2003 (hereinafter referred to as MS Office), the most commonly used office software.

The four ways of software installation

Put the MS Office CD into the CD-ROM drive, double-click to run automatically, fill in the serial number as required, and accept the license agreement, there are four ways to choose to install.

1. Typical Installation

The installer will automatically install the most commonly used options for you. It's the easiest way for beginners, and you don't have to make any choices and settings for the installation. Packages installed this way provide you with the most basic and common features.

2.Full Installation

Selecting it will automatically install all the features in the software, but it requires the most disk space. If you want to fully understand a piece of software, it's best to choose a full installation so that you don't have to install any components and you can't use one of them.

3. Minimal installation

Install only the software that is most necessary for the software, mainly for users who have tight disk space or only need its main functions, such as when installing word processing software. Choosing this method will give up installing some less common fonts and only install a few required fonts.

4. Custom Installation

Select which functional components of the software you want to install. After selecting it, the installer logic will provide you with a list of listings. You can choose which projects to install and clean up the unwanted installations according to your actual needs.

In these four installation methods, you can choose the installation path of the software. It should be noted that there is still a lot of learning here. General beginners, when installing various software, do not make special settings for the files installed in the software, directly install the software into the program folder of the system, in fact, this is not the best way. The default program folder of the general system is the "Program Files" directory under the system disk. Since the system needs a lot of free space for data exchange during operation, it is not recommended to install all the software on the C disk, especially In the case where the C drive space is not large. You can create a folder called "Program Files" on other disks (such as D drive) and assign the installation folder to the folder you have set up in advance. For a custom installation, when you click "Next", the window for selecting the installation component will appear (Figure 1).

General software is made up of many The sub-programs with separate functions, such as MS Office, are composed of multiple subroutines such as Word and Excel. These subroutines are called software components. For components that are not needed or are not commonly used, you can choose them at the time of installation to save space on the hard disk. When you need these components in the future, you can use the Add/Remove Programs feature to add them.

If you select the "Select advanced customization of the application" item, the "Programs and Additional Content and Tools" window will appear, where you can select whether many additional function options are run from this machine ( As shown in Figure 2).

File Associations Ignore

When installing a program file at the end, it will generally prompt you with the files it supports Association. When it comes to file association, let me explain to you what is file association. File association is the establishment of a dependency on a type of file with a program that can open it. For the installation of Storm Video (Figure 3), you can either choose the built-in association method or customize the file type to be associated. But before you really understand how the program works, it's best not to associate it with the files it supports. Otherwise, when you double-click on those files in the future, this program will be launched, which is very inconvenient.

Rogue software is not annoying

There are some software installations, often with the installation of "junk software", they are not Formal commercial software is not a real virus; it has certain practical value. However, during installation, if you don't pay attention, you will install it after clicking "Next". However, when installing the software, some "rogue software" will be installed automatically, and will be automatically installed without giving any hints. It is really a complete stream. Although they also provide an uninstall feature in part, they can be uninstalled manually. However, more "rogue software" does not provide uninstall function after installation, or how to delete or delete it. This type of "rogue software" can only be processed by other methods.

First, bundled software detection

often downloaded files from the Internet, I do not know if it has bundled rogue software, you can use the "Zhongtian Forum dedicated bundle detector" to do for them Experience, open this green small software, click to select the "Select File" button, find the downloaded file, click the "Open" button, and the result will be detected immediately (Figure 4). Now that I know that the downloaded software has bundled rogue software, I will give it an operation and find out the software I need.

Second, the bundled software separation tool

can use InnoUnpacker this small software to complete this separation work, it can be simple InnoUnpacker is directly decomposed by using Inno. The InnoUnpacker is small in size and simple to operate. It is a green software. After running, click “Browse” to find the original installer you want to decompose (see Figure 5), and then click “Execute” it. The installer is separated from the bundled rogue program. In addition, the software has a number of options, you can hover your mouse over a "command" or "option" to view the prompt information. At the same time, clicking the "Log" button will pop up a separate detailed list, then you can find the separated source installer and bundled rogue program under the {app} subfolder in the folder where the original installer is located, you can extract the desired After installing the things, you will not be harassed by the bundled software, and you can use it to relieve your worries.

Figure 5 Decomposition of the installation program made with Inno

The combination of these two software can avoid the installation of most rogue software, but it can not completely prevent rogue software, so here The idea for everyone is to find an alternative software with the same function. If you really want to use a piece of software and can't find a replacement for the same function, then it's best to try both of these software before installing.
